My Afternoon Video Blog/Vlog- "No Handicap Accessibility For My Dad At Tax Payer Funded Park? Picnicking With My Dad & Family....We Had Fun, But I Was Surprised By The Lack of Ramps & Accommodations"
Sometimes the last minute adventures can be the most fun! That being said, my family and I decided to take a last minute trip to a park about a half hour from town. We thought it would be fun to have a picnic. Since it was very last minute, we stopped by Subway and got some food to take since we didn't have time to prepare anything ahead of time.
We had a really pleasant time and it was very peaceful to get out in nature and enjoy the outdoor surroundings. This park is a federally funded park/campground facility that is setup for overnight as well as day use. It's very beautiful and has swimming, hiking trails, picnic areas , etc.
We used to go there quite often when we were growing up and have many fond memories, too.
Though we had a very nice time today, I must say that I was quite surprised that this park/campground did not have any accessibility for the disabled.
Now, I will be honest, I didn't think about the need for handicap accessible accommodations prior to my dad's stroke, but since then, I have become very observant of it.
I guess what bothered me is that the federal government lays the law down for small business owners to make sure that thieir businesses have met handicap regulations and compliance.
And even though I think that is generally a good law to have in place, I am surprised at the hypocrisy and double standard actions that some of these government funded parks have. Now just to be fair, most of these types of parks do make provisions, but it is obvious that it exist everywhere.
They tell businesses to get their act together but then they don't comply themselves? It just seems rather unfair. Fortunately, I was strong enough to get my dad down the hill and to the picnic area, but it still didn't make the issue right.
I'm thankful, nevertheless, because we had a really enjoyable day, despite the small setback. Also, I am thankful for the victories that the disabled community has had in promoting greater awareness of these issues....... and I hope, in the process, that I was able to do the same as I post this blog/Vlog.

Have a wonderful afternoon! 😊
My sister is paraplegic and uses a wheelchair and whenever I'm with her I'm amazed at how poorly this world is set up for someone with different abilities! It can feel like simply getting around takes more than twice the time and effort. Luckily she has a good sense of humor about it, but I don't always!
It sounds like you and your sister have been comfronted with similar situations. I applaud your sister for having a good attitude about things as I'm sure it's not always easy. My dad generally has a positive outlook which is blessing. I wish you all the best and to your sister, as well! Thanks for commenting, @natureofbeing
