Baiturrahman Mosque; The Dutch Way to Take the Hearts of Acehnese (Part 2)
Sumber foto wikipedia.org [http://wikipedia.org]
Baiturrahman Mosque is a mosque pride of the people of Aceh since the time of the sultanate. This mosque was once burned by the Dutch when it was announced to the kingdom of Aceh on April 10, 1873 AD
The burning policy of the Dutch Baiturrahman Mosque then provoked the anger of the people of Aceh and led to the resistance of the Acehnese people.
This in turn has a negative effect on the Dutch presence in Aceh.
To gain influence in Aceh, the Kingdom of the Netherlands under the command of General Van Sweiten promised to rebuild the Baiturrahman Mosque.
But his promise was made only at the time of General May Karel Van Der Heijden as the Aceh military governor. The laying of the first stone was made on 9 October 1879 AD.
Workers are imported from Java. The mosque was only completed about three years later.
Unfortunately, after being built, the Baiturrahman Mosque is deserted from worship activities. This is because the people of Aceh at that time, did not want to pray or worship at Baiturrahman Mosque. Because the mosque was built by the Dutch, who in the discussion of the people of Aceh, is the invaders.
