Can't We All Just... Get Along?
I've lived in the London for pretty much all my life and can think of no other place on Earth than this, as my home. But man, I gotta admit that we as a nation, do have some very peculiar opinions concerning liberalism and humanitarian freedom, which only seem to be getting worse. Take, for example, the newest nonsensical drivel that's making the rounds throughout news stations across the country.
This couple, down in a district of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, has been having a few issues with the neighbours. Apparently, they get dressed in the mornings with the blinds open and inadvertently expose themselves to whoever so decides to peer in through their window. A couple days ago, they received a letter through the front door from another couple who resides opposite their backyard, rudely suggesting that they close their shutters before getting dressed so as not to offend the rest of the world outside. But hang on a minute, they're getting dressed "in their own home"! Where's the problem? Just mind your business and don't look into other people's property, goddamnit! Check out the original news article here. Still, it managed to spark a media frenzy as this weeks hotly debated subject.
I just don't get it. I mean, it's common knowledge that the underlying culture within these great lands, is one of conservatism and being strictly conformist in nature, but this is getting beyond a joke. The papers sensationalize these ridiculous stories purely for ratings, of course, but I also live in a neighborhood where there is this unspoken communal bylaw of which "everyone must act accordingly to a certain set of public standards". Not to say that myself or people around me want to traipse around in the nude all day long, but it's just some residents unnecessarily intrusive manner that I've got a problem with.
Like just the other day. The sun is out and my neighbour a few doors down, is blasting his music in his garden whilst repairing a bike or something. OK, so it was 3pm in the afternoon and he's having fun in his garden. Soon after, I got a text from the couple living next door to me. They had only moved into the area for about a year or so thus were quite taken aback by this newfound and unexpected disturbance. The text read:
"Sorry to bother you, but I'm sure you can hear the racket going on outside. We're trying to catch an afternoon nap and are finding it impossible to sleep. What do you think we can do about stopping this?"
What the hell? We? Just because "she" couldn't get "her" damn sleep, everybody else should bend to their royal will and contribute to destroying their own neighbourly relations? Maybe it was simply the fact that it was reggae that got her all in a fluster. Whatever. I couldn't care less. Well, after a couple minutes thought, I found a suitable reply.
"Hi there. Hope you're well and sorry for your inconvenience. To be honest, I think it'd be best if we let the situation be. Reason being, I have it on good authority that he was involved in a recent altercation with a local that landed that individual in hospital. And, with us being neighbours and all, would hate for any detrimental problems to come our way. Don't worry though, the sun will go down soon and the music should stop soon enough. Ta-ta, now."
Needless to say, I didn't get a response. And neither party either side were none the wiser. I hear stories like these on a regular basis now and I'm, quite frankly, sick of it. Opinionated people telling others how to live their lives when, nine times of out ten, they themselves are the perpetrators of creating extraneous problems.
I hope the situation changes for the better and our community at large find it in their hearts to simply let others do as they please, within the boundaries of social public acceptability, of course. But I'm not gonna hold my breath for that to happen anytime soon.
Well it's really a big problem of our society because people always find their own comfort zone and Don't care about anybody else and that's totally shows in your neighbours message,
We have to think about this topic because it's really bad to always do complaint about everybody who is just trying to enjoy his life a little bit without any particular intention to harm someone's comfort.
This society really needs to change this thinking.
It's a growing nuisance in our society. Whatever happens to simply live and let live?
Hahaha mehn this is epic. It's quite a confusing situation as I havnt been able to come up with what I would do if I find myself in such a situation.
Aparrectly I have been in a situation where I was playing a music quite loud in my room at night and a neighbour walked up to my door and asked me to turn the volume down. I didbas she pleased perhaps coz it was night and everyone else was asleep. But what would have been my response ifbshebhad come in the afternoon as Ur story tells? Haven't found an answer to that yet.
But the question is, should people keep quiet when their peace is being disturbed? Apparently not but in my opinion, I feel, if you are the only one being disturbed , then you better keep shot. Guess that's what the lady who sent you the letter was trying to ascertain. She didn't want to be the only one going to complain. She felt that if the music disturbed just more than her alone, them man would be considerate enough to turn down the volume.
True, but she was the only one being disturbed, as far as I'm aware. She wanted to drag me into her battle for moral support, disregarding the possible implications for me. Lol, that's a serious "no-no" in my book. :)
We make different future for us and our children.
Agreed! A simple lesson in teaching to respect one another is all that's needed. :)
Your response was hillarious, haha!
I'm sure you remember it well... :)
(I have it on good authority that he was involved in a recent altercation with a local that landed that individual in hospital.
Don't worry though, the sun will go down soon and the music should stop soon enough.) Ha Ha...
She sure got scared, and never gonna try to face him in future. And, last line was hilarious. ;)
Actually, it is not only in your country. It has been going all around us. We do not measure our behavior. But, we do the others. How, he or she should behave....Blah..blah...
God damn it!!! do your own business. Why you are trying to put your nose in another people business!!!! Also, just like you said, that is not gonna happen anytime soon.
It's a shame so many members of our society work like that. But hey, what can we do, right?
Yeah, there is nothing we can do about it. Maybe just pray and hope.
I thought this issue was peculiar to Africans only. This same thing, people always want to tell others how to live their lives and feel theirs is perfect. We will all be living in peace if everyone just mind their business
Very well said, bud. :)
It’s not just England, it’s everyhere. You don’t have to have much of and education or set of morals to be a media reporter these days. As for your neighbor maybe they don’t have enough to do to worry about such pettiness. I liked the answer you gave her. Doubtful she will complain again. Thanks for a fun read. 🐓🐓
Lol, thanks! She hasn't disturbed me since. Just the way I like it. But yes, common decency and manners aren't class-distinctive. It differs wildly from one end of the social spectrum to the other. :)
Lol, you see people won’t stop to amaze me , so many critics out there . Negative critics to be precise. I’ve had similar experiences to what you had and what was in the news about people not minding their business
Recently I was at a school , and fortunately a scene was going on. A parent was asked to pay the tuition fee but instead turned aggressive and cursing the owner and a Good Samaritan so to say wanted to stop the uprising ended up slapping the ranting woman and she fainted which got her to police custody.
Why wouldn’t she had left the the woman to keep lamenting and ignore her .
Well I learnt a lesson from this .
Lol, she got slapped and fainted? Damn, that's how things work from your neck of the woods! Man, I'd have loved to be there and witness how everything transpired!
Lool, ridiculous
Very annoying. I know their type, do as i say, dont do as i dokind of people, most of the time they are just hypocrites, i enjoy being nude in my house duurrhh, lol
Well said, bud. People are so quick to point the finger before taking a long, close look at themselves. I tend to steer away from such individuals. If they cross me though, the big guns are coming out! :)
nice life story
