Catch where it falls

Our earth is a beautiful “blue planet” on which we reside. It is termed “blue” based on what it looks like from the satellites, high up in space. It reflects an incredible blue hue due to the abundant water present in it. Now the question that arises is: If we’ve got water in abundance, then why do we suffer water scarcity? Yes, we, indeed, have plenty of water, as about 71 per cent of the earth is covered with it, but the irony is that only 0.03 per cent of it is fresh water, i.e., water fit for us to drink or use for our daily needs. How often do we think of ways to cope with this scarcity? How often do we take out time to think about how long this little amount of water will sustain to serve, say, seven billion people? It’s high time we are made aware that every drop counts.

The best way to tackle water scarcity is to catch rainwater where it falls. Nowadays, we have seen people who are concerned about this matter and taking a lot of interest on this topic. Some of us have taken up the initiative of building reservoirs, where we can store the fresh rainwater. People in villages have also put in a lot of effort. Pipes are attached to the roofs of the houses in the villages from which water is allowed to drip down into the soil. This results in rich productivity and an increase in the level of groundwater.

There is a lot being done to save water and to save our planet, but it needs to be done by all of us and not just a few people.

The water we drink is now turning unsafe due to the alarming amounts of industrial pollution in it, which can lead to myriad health issues. Mankind has placed itself on a self-exploding dynamite by polluting water. I urge everyone to stop using the water bodies as dustbins. Just a day without water isimpossible for us. Then why don’t we value it? It’s time we stopped wasting water unnecessarily. It is more than just a problem. We have created this horrendous state and now it’s upon us to help ourselves and our fellow beings to get out of this plight. I appeal to everyone to take a step forward and help us save our ‘drop of life’ as we all know that without water, we would all perish.
