Freedom!

in #story7 years ago (edited)

The moonlight reflects off the perfect form of the spiders web, the silk shimmering with a breathtakingly pure silver light. But as beautiful as the web is, for you, the butterfly now caught, it is a terrifying place, something worse than the most vile of nightmares, a sticky net that grabs at you and keeps you contained, alive, unhurt, but horrified as you await your inescapable fate.

You don't see it at first as you struggle in vain against your flossy bindings, but soon it appears unavoidably before you, its eight long legs and massive torso, covered in hair almost as black as its many, many eyes. It stares at you with no emotion, uncaring of the life you have lived, the journey you have undergone.

You know what these monstrous fiends do, how they will stab you, and inject venom inside of your chest to eat away your internal organs, while paralyzing you so you can't even scream. You've done something similar before, inside your cocoon. But that was different, that was natural, the price for becoming what you are now, a beautiful, colorful butterfly, born to be free.

As it comes closer, you see the chelicerae dripping with venom, but in your mind's eye you see open skies, filled with butterflies of every color and pattern. "It isn't fair!" you scream internally with fear and anger.

Closer and closer it comes, almost close enough now to touch you, the monster lunges! "Freedom!" you scream with all your might, as it flies at you from mere inches away, you close your eyes and pull, beating your glistening wings with all you have!
