Why I Hate Democracy

in #story7 years ago

Yesterday a friend of mine told me "Most people in the world cant vote, we are so lucky". Are we really? was the first question in my mind. We are living in Germany and we had an election last week. I have never voted in my entire Life. There are two reasons for that:

  1. I dont think i am following news, politicians and journalists enough to make a precise decision.
  2. Many politicians lie. So even i follow everything how i am supposed to know that they are going to achieve what they are offering?

Most of the people are not following news, reading books and they are voting just because of some simple facts( Like their Parents were voting for that party when they were a kid). I dont know how healthy it is to make a decision just like that. When i was searching about flaws of democracy i saw a Quote from a french novelist: “I have never voted in my life... I have always known and understood that the idiots are in a majority so it's certain they will win.”

I cant say if majority of the people are idiots but majority of the people are definitely dont care enough to make a good decision. Otherwise how people like Trump and Theresa May can be presidents?

I hope to see in the future that young people make better decisions than people who are votin right now. Because the Democracy we have... i dont like it at all

I agree with you on pretty much all of your points except that Donald Trump became President of the US because people didn't care. I believe that many people only voted for Trump because of Hillary Clinton. She was viewed as unrelatable, corrupt, and elite, while Trump was viewed as an outsider (whether or not that is true is up for debate). If the democratic party had run Bernie Sanders instead, in my opinion, Trump probably would not be President.

Well since you mentioned you live in Germany... Was not Trump complaining about your trade surplus? ;) Imho, democracy is not about making optimal decisions all the time, rather it is about introducing competition (or inner conflicts) among those that are in power, that prevents them of budding up and eventually becoming corrupted. Because the logical (not moral, but logical) thing to do would for those with power to (ab)use it. I would even argue that Trump victory and UK decision was a blessing for Europe as it awoken the general public to the possibilities.
