Yes, all of SE Asia is much cheaper than in the states. I go as cheap as I can everywhere and it is amazing how far money goes here. I had a weekly hotel room near to everything in Bangkok for $300 usd per month for everything. Now in Kuala Lumpur it is about one third of that for a shared condo. My biggest cost is travel. I m on tourist visas and need to leave any country every 90 days and come back.

Food is cheap and can be and very healthy if I pay attention.
