Mulch and Music and Mushy Feelings

STEEEEEEEEMIT!!!!!! It has been awhile, eh? Summer, in all its sweaty sweetness has proven to be quite busy. Busking and gigging and violin teaching has taken up a lot of my time (aaaand maybe some sun tanning and margaritas too!) but I haven't forgotten about the community. Wherever you are I hope you have been blessed with summer smooches and sun ripened fruits and tan lines and salty lips from ocean dips and late night dancing in cobblestone streets....and I am sure there are a few other cheezy summer things I could add but I will spare you the goofiness.

I am a sucker for silly alliteration (maybe due to a childhood filled with Shel Silverstein books), and as the title to this post implies I have made a lot of time for forest adventures, violin, and of course poetry. Recently I went on a hike to a lake just a few hours from where I live. I am so blessed live near forests that retain their ancient breath. The moss is prehistoric, the forest's quiet has been still for eons; I even saw a raven, only meters away from me, as big as mythology itself.

Since I now have a camera to take photos with I thought I'd share a few of the mushrooms I discovered on my adventure. Have you ever taken spore prints before? It is very easy and is a great way to document you mycological discoveries - the spore prints even make beautiful pieces of art. Different species have spores of different colours ranging from red to green to black to purple...to the mystical cerulean blue. If you are savvy you can grow your own mushrooms. The gills of a mushroom are so beautiful, something so sensual about them - I consider the gills to be the feminine counterpart to the mushroom which is in a spiritual and literary sense, quite masculine.
