Yellowstone Super Volcano - If it happens to erupt... It's been nice knowing all of you.
Many people know there is a super volcano under Yellowstone national park. This is why there are many hot springs, geysers, etc. Fewer people may be aware how bad that could be if what is known as a super eruption occurs.
There are quite a few articles and journalists talking about this (if you can sneak past the swarms of the normal non-stop propaganda war). I happen to live in a northern suburb of Denver. So if a super eruption does ever occur, it has been nice knowing all of you. My family and I along with anyone within 600 miles of Yellowstone will be pretty much gone. The rest of the United States will be in very dire straits as well, and no one will be really worried about Climate Change any longer. In fact, the world will likely be experiencing what is known as Nuclear Winter.
So why is there so much discussion about this right now?
Well that could be because there have been more than 800 earthquakes recorded at the Yellowstone Caldera over the past two weeks. The U.S. Geological Survey still places the risk level in the "green" according to Newsweek.
I probably don't live close enough to pull a Pompeii like action and get myself flash petrified. It'd be an unpleasant day, maybe more if I am unlucky and then there would be silence.
Now if this does happen, odds are most people won't be too much talking on steemit. I imagine just how much of the infrastructure this would devastate. Not to mention there would not be much in the way of flying around in airplanes.
The largest earthquake so far was a magnitude of 4.4 and occurred on June 16th, which was three days after the rumblings started. That is the biggest since March 14th, 2014 when there was a 4.8 that hit near Norris Geyser Basin.
The celebrity theoretical physicist Michio Kaku has been speaking up about this as he believes there is a 10% chance that a super eruption could occur this century. The last one occurred 640,000 years ago. This supposedly makes it overdue.
Now for me living where I live this is about the only truly non-man made catastrophic event that might impact me. Tornadoes are not really a problem, certainly not hurricanes, floods, etc.
There are reports that this earthquake swarm has slowed down, so perhaps we'll go on to live another day.
I mentioned as a joke the other day that they should legalize fracking of the region. Yet that would likely be fatal to anyone that happened to be doing the fracking. I was simply thinking of the idea of releasing pressure. I know this is not likely very realistic so it was more dark humor in the face of what some day will be doom. Hopefully long in the future.
Michael Snyder of The American Dream blog wrote a good article that covers some information on this and how devastating it would be if it occurs.
This section of that particular blog drives the point home.
If you don't know much about super volcanoes I thought it might be worth sharing a few documentaries on the topic.

A Supervolcano Waking Up In The USA
Like many other countries, UK will be under water. The only place to go if yelliwstone errupts is Nars.
It's pretty quiet on the earthquake front in the UK, if you are thinking of moving? ;)
Nah, I'm okay. If that one goes up the UK won't matter much either. You'll have some warning though.
Okay, fair enough, I'm building my underground bunker then!
This is something different
I haven't seen anything like this
Nice photographs
Thank You for sharing
Steem on
This should further add credence to the Idea of colonizing Mars (And the Haste behind it!).
Indeed... or just getting established in space period.
You too. Nibiru will come through before it would erupt on it's own but when it does it'll cause this among countless other disasters.................. ;) Oh, sometimes I crack myself up..................
One more weapon of mass destruction thanks to america :P
This one predates anything called America. It is the dragon that slumbers beneath the ground, and one day men scurried above it and stuck their flags in the dirt and drew imaginary lines. When the dragon wakes that all will cease to have meaning.
The imaginary lines don't have any meaning now if you don't believe in them.
The whole idea that there are things called countries is absurd, except that we keep on believing in the myth of authority.. Sorry, I would rather not participate in this crazy mass delusion.
As far as the volcano goes though, can't we just sacrifice a couple virgins?
Governments are basically different gangs that have marked out their turf.
I'm sure no kind of sacrifice works when nature calls.....u simply can't tame nature completely....nature is beautiful but also wild
Haha if you mess with the USA we will unless our super volcano.
You could also get hit by an asteroid.
yep. :)
I will just get my hands on a Pip-Boy and I will be fine.
Yeah you'll have plenty of warning. :)
Just need a medpack to fix my torn away limps. It will be all looting and weird android sex! I feel well prepared for the apocalypse thanks to video games ;)
First of all, Great post and good videos. Second I really wish they could find a way to diffuse the caldera. If they don't that means good by to forward progress for a while. There is a chance some humans will survive so it would take some time to get back to civilization as we know it. It would be cool, and I know I sound like a kid by saying this but, it would be cool to build a force field around the caldera and contain the blast inside. I think of crap like that sometimes. lol
Dude you need to MOVE!!! Seriously though, I had no idea. Thanks for sharing.
Moving may not do any good. If that one goes off the entire world is in trouble. I might be the lucky one for going out fast. Some people believe the Yellowstone Supervolcanoe has the potential to be an Extinction Level Event. It is the largest of all known supervolcanoes around the world. There are two more in the U.S. but this dwarfs those. One in New Mexico, and one in California.
