The Firepit - Rawtenstall

‘The Firepit’ is a venue that has been on our watch list for some time, and it seems everyone we know has already been there and sampled the food. The talk is that the place is ‘good’ and we have not heard anything negative as yet.

The rain was swilling down as we arrived outside the restaurant, and we had to loiter around in the car and wait for a break just to stop getting drenched.

I took the feature picture snap on the way out as the rain had somewhat retreated by this time.

The Firepit is located in what was an old railway station housing. There are still Steam Trains running up and down the line, for tourists during the sunny seasons.

The entrance felt to me more like an 80’s nightclub. ‘Can I take your jacket sir’, I was expecting. It didn’t happen of course, and we had pre-booked a table for 6pm. Later booking times were already gone, a good sign!

I noticed Havana Cigars were for sale at the entrance counter. Considering smoking is banned inside restaurants, it seemed a little strange.

The restaurant was around half full by 6.30pm on a Saturday evening. I expect it would be full by 9pm.

We were ushered to a two-seater table alongside a wall which was appropriate I thought. Being too close too the next table is a big turnoff for me; there was adequate personal space.

I had planned to have a steak beforehand, and @bingbabe ordered the same. TWO x 10oz Rib Eyes please!

IMG_3133.JPG

The steaks weighed in a £19.95 each, not too expensive but certainly not cheap for the location this restaurant is situated in.

IMG_3134.JPG

I noticed we were not asked the usual question, ‘How would you like it cooked’. That’s because it was delivered on a hot smoking stone and was still red raw and still cooking.

We had to chop it up and keep turning the individual pieces of meat to cook them. Included in the deal were chips and THREE sauces each. I chose Steak, Garlic and Teriyaki.

IMG_3136.JPG

The picture looks like there are only around 9 chips, but the pot was quite deep and by the time I had consumed the food I was pleasantly full.

The meat was really nice, tender and fresh. Cooking it yourself I suppose is a little gimmicky. If you like your steak rare, you would simply need to eat it faster!

@bingbabe bought this mint cocktail which I really didn’t think too much of! She finished most of it, leaving me with 2 pints of coke to consume; not ideal for my sugar levels.

We were in and out in just 55 minutes. Personally I like this, and tells me the service is good. I'm not one for taking 2-3 hours of my time eating.

My take on ‘The Firepit’ is most definitely positive. We will be back for more, but will probably sample something different on our next visit.

Hello! @SlobberChops
We were impressed because of your high quality post. So we give you a present. We expect wonderful activity next time. Thank you.

That meat looks excellent!!! That's the best cooking point.
Bon appetite!

What a cool place I guess the cigar stand was a blast from the past for them

The cigar selling was weird to me. Smoking in restaurants was outlawed in 2007, though you can hang around the entrance and smoke, but a Havana cigar? I sent the review to their Facebook page, and them haven't replied yet!

@slobberchops Yeah It is strange your right, dDo they actually sell them or is it just for looks?

Oh they sell them for sure.

Congratulations! This post has been chosen as one of the daily Whistle Stops for The STEEM Engine!

You can see your post's place along the track here: The Daily Whistle Stops, Issue 213 (8/01/18)

Nice review! Was that a Mojito that @bingbabe got? I have never had one before, but I have always wanted to try one. We have a place about an hour or so down the expressway from where I live that has been doing the whole "steak on a stone" thing for a long time. A little closer to us they used to have a place where you could actually grill your own steak on a charcoal grill. I don't quite get it because I could do the same thing at home for much cheaper with drinks! Like you said though, probably more of a gimick thing...

It was a Mojito, I just asked her. Anything but mint might have been OK. It was made of Rum and Lime and Mint.

Yeah, I have a friend that really likes those. Like I said, I have never tried one before. Mint can be aggressive for sure!

Looks nice but they're a bit stingy with those chips. I reckon most of us would stick a few more in if you made your own chips as well.

Steak looks nice and well worth the price. Not sure about the chips, though, neither the amount nor the look of them (how did they taste)? I agree about the space, can't stand those places where you have to get up so the person at the next table can sit down and the pair of you spend all evening up and down. Nice review, probably wouldn't be my first choice, but for a quick meal where you knew what you were going to get, I'd give it a go.

Now you mentioned it.. the chips.., they were OK but maybe a tad under cooked or just one of the fat ones was. It was good, close by and Ill go again.

I'm not sure how tasteem works - can anyone be a reviewer or do you have to be approved? And can you review any eating place or is it by theme? I had a look at the website (I've half a mind to eat out tonight) but I found it a bit confusing.

Its similar to @steemhunt, you need to author you article via their interface at tasteem.io. but first you need to be whitelisted to take part as they had a lot of abuse the first time around (2 months ago).

I would suggest you apply for the white list, but tonight take a load of pictures, and do your write up saving it for later.

They give you a nice up-vote just for posting and if you finish in the top ten after the contest finishes another vote of $20. Its worth the effort.

They do grab a full vote off you every time you post.

The current one is:

Ah, thank you - I knew there was something that wasn't quite straightforward! Good idea to take pictures and save the write up.

Oh wow! That sounds amazing! I havent been eating red meat lately but you have given me cravings for a good steak cooked medium rare! :D

And I thought everyone at SteemCamp was veggie! I'm sure most were...

Haha no, my dad was a butcher so i was raised on good meay lol. I am trying to cut down on the amount I eat though for health reasons

Now that looks like my kind of place! I love steak and don't like spending hours over a meal. It looks delicious!

It was, I have another restaurant review up my sleeve which involves steak too but Ill save that for the next @tasteem post. I don't think I'm allowed more than one per contest.

Quite unique serving the steak on a hot stone, that was a giant piece of meat, looks like a great place!
