Traffic in Malaysia
What would you say Kuala Lumpur is known for? The most common answers would be good food, culture, architecture, rainforest and history. When my foreign friends ask me this question, my answer would be the same but I'd add in traffic and emphasize on that.
Malaysians driving about Kuala Lumpur on a daily basis can vouch for that. We would do anything in our power to avoid traffic because once caught in the rush hour traffic, it's best to be prepared with your dinner in the car and your phone fully charged because you're going to be stuck in that car for quite a while.
Locals have gotten used to the traffic and it's not something we're unfamiliar with. Traffic could occur from road constructions and accidents but it could also occur from indecisive drivers who'd like to switch from the outer right lane into the most left lane. That causes a major problem for many other drivers behind him. Rush hour vary according to the area, for example : Traffic in Puchong on the NPE going toward Sunway start at about 7:30am and will lessen by about 10:00am and the traffic in Ampang at the Great Eastern Mall intersection starts at about 8:30am and ends at approximately 11:00am. There's the morning rush hour, lunch rush hour and dinner rush hour.
Fridays are different in Malaysia. Other countries have rush hours too but theirs don't consist of Friday prayer rush hour and Friday night rush hour on the same day. Like I said, locals have gotten used to rush hour and sometimes, we don't drive out for lunch. Instead, we either cook at home or we bring lunch to the office and have lunch there instead. We are only given an hour for lunch and if we drive out, 20 minutes of that time is already dedicated to traffic.
