Drones & The Blockchain

in #technology7 years ago (edited)

Hello fellow Steemit's,

I have just joined this community as i am a lover of crypto and a lover of drones. I want to share all the cool things i am doing with drones, keep you up to date with the latest drone tech, and tell you why the blockchain or a variation of it is going to be huge for our industry

I work for a Chartered Surveying company, based in London, and this year we have done some really cool projects including, Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Tottenham Hotspur football club and some other cool projects. The picture above is of a recent survey we did of Big Ben. I had the privilage of being the first person in the world to be able to survey this iconic building using drones, and it was by far the most exciting yet nervy project. One foul move and you are on the front pages of the national newspapers

We fly drones to 3D model assets such as buildings and railway tracks, and we convert the data we collect into CAD models so that architects, construction companies, asset management companies and a whole host of other industries can take advantage of this amazing tech. Below is an example of the data we produce from the drone:

This data we use to measure the railways before they replace a piece of track. It stops us from having to put people in danger or close the railway line, so the rail networks love it. Glad to say we are the only people in the world doing this at the moment, and so if you like cool cutting edge stuff, hopefully i will be able to cater to your tastes!

One of the problems my industry faces is that we have loads of amateurs buys "toys" from amazon and flying them around airports. The governments around the world want people to register their drones and they want more regulation. My belief is that we can develop a decentralized register on the blockchain. This same blockchain can then be used to authorize flights, confirm the identity of the pilot to authoritative bodies, obtain permission to fly in restricted airspace and as this develops allow seamless communication between the drone, the operator, and other drones and their operators. The potential here is endless, but from what little i have learnt in the last 2 months since joining the crypto community, the blockchain is the perfect solution. Decentralized, secure, and open source. By having this drone ecosystem running on the blockchain, companies will be able to integrate their apps and systems, meaning no conflict between software. I think of it as a decentralized internet for drones

Anyway that is all for now. If you are interested in drones do keep an eye out for my posts. If you have any ideas on the drone blockchain idea, feel free to get in touch. I am looking for intelligent people to help me take this forward. I am an expert in drones, but still quite amateurish when it comes to the blockchain. This is where this idea needs an injection of knowledge to "take-off" :)
