My baby steps into the world of Apple. Setting up my first iPhone from Android.
Last week I ordered an iPhone 7. After some recent annoyances with Android and Windows I got so fed up with it all that I decided to give Apple a try. I never owned an apple device before. I always thought they were overpriced. But I am getting older (32) and I simply have no time to figure out how to make devices work the way I want. I just need them to work well out of the box.
Overpriced or not I ordered one. I’m expecting a much better experience. This is a quick recap of setting up my first iPhone. It could be valuable if you are thinking about changing phones as well.

Get the correct SIM card
The iPhone 7 arrived over a week ago, and I tried to install it the very same day just to find out that the micro SIM card from my old phone (Samsung S5) didn’t fit. This was a bad start. After a call to my service provider, they sent me a new card the following week and I could finally test it. Make sure you order a nano SIM with your iPhone 7!
Changing phones, transferring data.
Setting up a new phone sucks. It’s boring and in the back of my mind I’m always afraid things will get deleted in the process. From Android to Android it’s no fun but from Android to iPhone it must be worse, right? It’s not.
Apple made only one app for Android, and it’s called ‘Move to iOS’. Personally, I think that’s hilarious. It basically creates a little private WIFI network between the two phones and it will transfer all your contacts, texts, calendars and photos from the android device to the iPhone 7. This works flawlessly.
It will also tell the iPhone 7 what apps you were using on the Android Phone and it will download all these apps on the iPhone 7 from the App store. If you are using any paid apps you sadly must buy these again. (I knew this beforehand.)
You do have to set some things up in your apps like the logins for your banking and email but it’s not much work if you know your passwords.

Transferring WhatsApp chats
Everything was going great until I wanted to transfer my WhatsApp chats. I use WhatsApp for my business allot and the chats with clients are very valuable to me. After trying for 2 hours trying to export/import them I realized there is no easy way of doing this at all (and believe me I looked everywhere).
I ended up buying a program for it. The name of the program is ‘Backuptrans Android WhatsApp to iPhone Transfer’ and it cost 20 bucks. It works perfectly and got the job done in 10 minutes. If I knew this from the start I wouldn’t even have bothered trying anything else.
More than one hundred thousand messages! I am happy I could save them all.

That was it really. It was much easier than I thought it would be, and now that I was up and running I could start playing with my new phone! And I already encountered cool things that I love. Of course, it's too early to tell if I will keep liking it but the setup part was great.
So if you are thinking of changing phones then there is absolutely no reason to be afraid that you can’t keep all your data when setting it up.

This is a half joke post, the half of it is real that it is something you are losing out by using a closed source giant as your phone, the other half is a joke because who really cares, just if it does start sucking to have to pay for a lot of apps and things, don't be afraid to switch back, good luck with the new phone.
Haha, I hope it won't be that bad. Anyway, I don't mind a close sourced system because I have no interest/time in/for tweaking my phone. All I care about is that it just works well out of the box. I also don't mind paying for apps that I use. because I feel that's only fair to the creators. Time will tell if I did right. As I wrote I never owned an iPhone before so I can't form a well enough opinion yet.
