Trying GearVR after a couple months

Background:
I received a GearVR through the whole Samsung promotion of buying a S7 back in November 2016 and it finally came through the mail in December right around Christmas time. I played around with it for about all of January but I eventually became bored as there are limited free games and a lack of 3D videos to watch even with the adult kind... So I decided to chuck it in my junk drawer and I forgot about it like i do with most small gimmicks.
Today:
Flash forward to today, I was bored of the usual video games and I opened my junk drawer and what do I see... An untouched GearVR. I quickly threw my phone in booted up the main menu and was presented with "Your software is not up to date."

I was confused because I've seen my phone randomly update Occulus and I thought it auto updated. I then yanked the GearVR off and started the update sadly I had to update every app that came with it too. (took like 10 mins THANK YOU COLLEGE WIFI!) Came back loaded up the main menu and was surprised how they updated everything. The main menu was much more streamlined compared back to January so I guess Facebook has actually been working on their software after all!

All in all today was a good day.
