Geekgasm! Do you really need such a powerful machine for a NAS??
It's a combination of a NAS and a Virtual Machine server. The goal is to replace a 10TB Synology and two Dell R610 servers into one.
Why are you so selective on who you allow to abuse !popcorn?

when did CPU heat sinks gets so heavy - my machine just reached 10 years old, so been awhile since I've done a build.
When they stopped using copper and used aluminum.
Plus CPUs get a lot hotter now.
This is the fan from my last PC.
It's actually bigger than it looks too.
What the!! it's a fricken industrial refrigerator.
..I just used the stock one and kick the side off when it gets too hot - time for an upgrade for me as well :)
im running 32gb - as i soon as i finish my little side job project(php data scraper) i am going to upgrade to 64gb so i can run more vms
