RE: Digital Marketing: It isn’t broken yet but still needs fixing!

in #technology6 years ago

As an intended consumer of the barrage of ads tailored for my attention, I try to insulate myself from the distraction by ignoring all of them. That may not be effective in what I see, but knowing of the expert planning that goes into competition for my viewing time, I consider all ads as being necessary intrusions into my space. It did not take long to notice that a google search for a giant widget would result in seeing placed ads for them displayed within 24 hours

The one-time option of I AM NOT INTERESTED for an ad would be the best change of all. Just don't bother me with that product again! That would be the best filter of all for showing me what I want.

A very well written post, @adarshh. As ususal.

The Curie is well deserved since that was a time-consuming post to research and construct. Kudos, my friend!

thank you @willymac for taking the time read the post.

i agree that the experts know what they are doing and will not unncesseraly harange you with stuff that you dont like. But in their eagerness to suggest what you may like they end up intruding into your personal domain.

We have spent a decade listening to people like Google or Facebook telling us what we should be receptive to. It is time we take it back and let them know in no uncertain terms that we are absolutely sure of what we want to receive. we must demand that technology keeps up with our requirements as precisely as possible.

If i am constructing a house for the next 6 months, then i want ads about raw materials during that time. Once the house is finished, i want it all to magically go away.

Internet being what it is, we deserve better than what we got on TV

I would prefer that no one profiles me and makes suggestions on what they think I may want. If i have expressed a positive interest in something, okay; if I have not, then don't assault me with suggestions because it is more likely to turn me against anything you promote.

And, like you, when my need is met, let me notify the profilers through a "need met" response to an ad that my need has been met and I am no longer interested.

That would make their ads more targeted and my screen more valuable since I have a proven interest in solicited or previously accepted products.

Just because I google a specific kind of cat, don't assume that I am eager to buy one! (Happened last week.)

One reason I keep my FB account is to tell them I hate everything they advertise on my page. It my be ineffective but it skews my profile and that makes it fun.
