Ten lies and one truth revealed!
Hey Steemians,
I came across a post by @Sift666 where he told 10 truths and one lie. I thought it was such a fun way to get to know this rad dude, so I thought I would give it a try myself. In this post I'll reveal the lie, and elaborate on some of the truths!
Painting my father made of me in 1989
(1) I love to surf, this is a wave I scored a few weeks ago riding my very first board.
True, I started really surfing a couple of years ago, but I had a trip to Bali around 2008. On that trip I bought a second hand surfboard and surfed my butt off for a few weeks. I couldn't part ways with this board, so we travelled back to France together by foot, airplane, metro, train and car. After completing my studies, I send her back to my Island Curaçao along with some other belongings by sea. Long story short, this is that board, over 10 years later, surfing a wave on the little remote Island of "Klein Curaçao".
(2) I have 4 brothers and 5 sisters.
True, my mother, Elvia Moenir-Alam, has 8 children: Mahadai Besançon, Kamla Besançon, Patrick Scannell, Jason Scannell, Javed Scannell, Giovani Zanolino, Naina Zanolino and Rogelio Voges (from 4 marriages)

My father, Philippe Zanolino, has 4 children: Giovani, Naina, Neeraja and Maria (from 2 marriages)
Made in 2013 From left to right: Naina, Giovani, Maria, Neeraja
(3) I was born in Perigueux France 7-06-1986 in the same room as my father was born.
True, we were born in the same room at the maternity clinic on top of a hill in Perigueux France.
(4) I was kicked out of art school
False, I decided to leave Art-academy and the Netherlands. One of my favorite and best teachers at the school, Jan Zwaan, even spontaneously started crying when I told him I was leaving, he hugged me and told me "Jij bent een echte" Which in Dutch means, "you're a real one"
(5) My parents met in prison
True, my dad got arrested while on Saint-Martin. My mother was his criminal defense lawyer.
My father around 1991
(6) I have been a regular pot smoker since I’m 12 years old (with a few intervals)
True, I started smoking Pot with my brother Jason at an early age, it quickly became a regular part of my life and routine.
(7) I was voted one of France’s top 24 undiscovered Artists in 2016
True
(8) My girlfriend accidentally filled in on my ESTA (travel authorization into the Unites States) that I had previously been convicted for drug offenses...
True, this almost got me deported and I spend 6 hours in customs and interrogation upon arrival. Afterwards it took months of paperwork to get it all sorted out, so I could travel back into the States again.
(9) I once took a 16 hour bus-ride without stepping foot in the bus
True, The roads through the mountains were so bumpy and sketchy, with busses going over the edge regularly, I felt much more comfortable and safe on the roof. The views were beyond spectacular too! I ended up doing the whole bus ride without entering the bus at all :D
(10) I spend months in the Himalayas without electricity or running water, what I did have was Canvasses I made with a Tibetan Llama, oil based house paints I bought in Pokhara, and a ball of the best Hash I ever smoked, which was gifted to me by a Kashmiri Carpet Salesman.
True, this was one of my greatest adventures in this lifetime.
(11) I was raised on the Caribbean island Curaçao, after spending some 6 years studying and traveling abroad, I came back and currently live there.
True, I love and represent Curaçao
Thanks to everyone who participated @manouche @princepr @Daltono @sift666 @lantracy @jacksartori @intuitivejakob @peggyhazelwood @blastik and @kiwideb
There was 1 correct guess! Congratulations to @peggyhazelwood for seeing through the lie!
I really enjoyed doing the ten facts and one lie, It's a low pressure way of getting to know interesting things about each other, and that's what Steem is really about, sharing the experience...
Your comments and support are very much appreciated!
Bless ya life!
Number 6 is a lie! I can't believe you started to smoke at 12!
(You got a big family by the way)
Big family indeed,my grandfather had 22 siblings, and my grandmother 12, so the extended family is really huge. Do you have brothers and/ot sisters?
I started smoking a bit too young, but I was surrounded by older siblings, so I was doig things way to young, I started joyriding cars when I was 13/14 🙄
I have only 1 sister!
22 siblings is a lot
Crazy huh? All birthed by one woman... They didn't have television and lived in a third world country :0
Holy shite that's a lot of kids!
I started smoking ganja FIRST CHANCE I HAD, bugging the local mexican friend that knew me well to sell to me, for $10. I was 14.
He said "Ok, but YOU don't know me!"
Great post! Bravo!
I have been around the planet, seen most of the worlds great art museums, studied art history for many years in preparation to do so, studied ancient art, and I agree 'you are a real one'!
Your dad looks like a movie star in the picture; I hate you.
Guys like you make it hard for guys like me! ;-)
Thank you so much, the vote of confidence feels like a badge of honour.
My dad was quite infamous in his days... You look like a pro surfer forced to wear a tie! Seems like it worked out very well for you. Plus a heart of gold, never gets old my friend!
I was a surfer and jazz musician that had no stomach for poverty and loved romance! But ain’t no romance without no finance... (old jazz tune;-)

The award is just a small accolade, it got me quite some publicity though and it made me feel proud to be able to represent my country of Birth 👨🏽🎨
Haha, it helps that we've been on each other's blogs since day 1. However small the accolade is, it recognises you for your work and that's definitely something to be proud of!
