Boys in rural Laos selling a Bamboo Rat for cooking.
Last year.
Boys in rural Laos selling a Bamboo Rat for cooking.
They found me comical for sure, because I decided to buy the rats freedom. They released it, but I know that the chances of them catching it and selling it again was high.
No matter though. I felt good about buying the rat the opportunity. Shame on it if it is foolish enough to get itself caught again! Either way I felt good, the rat got a chance, and the boys made a profit.
This was my first time taking my bike into Laos. I was nervous initially, but I was lucky to have an excellent mentor; Mr.David Unkovich (aka GT.Rider.com and GT Rider maps).
I switched off, followed the leader and enjoyed the ride. (Trip report here: http://motogirlthailand.com/muang-sing-bust-crossing-thai-border-riding-laos/)
This trip gave me the taste and confidence to ride a bigger solo trip in Laos a few months later. http://motogirlthailand.com/laos-solo-adventure/
...and that fab trip led me to want to try ride in other neighbouring countries too. So recently I went to Siem Reap, Cambodia. http://motogirlthailand.com/ride-angkor-wat-khmer-temple-trail-chiang-mai-siem-reap-loop/
My bike is a simple inexpensive 2nd hand 250cc Kawasaki Dtracker and I adore it, because of where it takes me. Some of the best times of my life have been on this bike and I'm slowly pushing my personal boundaries ongoing, and hopefully always improving my skills as a rider.
Prior to this bike all my adventures were on my 115cc automatic scooter, which took me all over northern Thailand, many times over.
Sometimes you don't need much, you just need a passion and drive. Riding a motorcycle in Thailand is not an expensive hobby, unless you like or need expensive things.
I even plan on doing more hammock camping with the cooler seasons coming. Not just for saving money, but for the shear joy of being out in nature.
If I can possibly inspire anyone to just get out there and do it, then that makes me really happy. Or if you like to just read about my trips then it makes me happy to try show some of the amazing beauty that is around us.
Hah..hmm..this turned out to be a little bit more of a sentimental post than I initally intended, but I just feel so very blessed to be enjoying these kinds of adventures.
Many thanks too, to those who enjoy reading about them. It's nice to have an audience to share these stories with!
I wish everyone safe travels and many fun adventures in life 🤗

Hello there.
Nice of you to save the rats. Eheh.
I know you are new around here. It's better to try to post 2 or 3 times a day, so it would be best for you to save some posts for other days...
I suggest you use Busy.org, which allows you to save posts and publish them later.
Thanks for the tip :)
