The Diary Game: Rain, Work, Conversations and My Amala Treat

in #thediarygame11 days ago

Hello Steemians, how are you doing? Welcome to another episode of my diary. Today was another interesting day filled with different little moments that made the day memorable. From the sound of rain in the middle of the night to a delicious plate of amala at the end of the day, it was a simple but fun filled and enjoyable day. Around 1:00 AM, I was suddenly awakened by the sound of rain hitting the roof. Since I had buckets outside, I got up and quickly brought them out so they could collect some rainwater. After doing that, I went back to bed and continued sleeping.

I woke up again around 5:00 AM. The buckets were already filled with water, so I took them inside before starting my morning routine. I had some leftover rice from the previous day, so I warmed it up and ate it after brushing my teeth and taking my bath. I live alone, so I had a few house chores to take care of before leaving home. I cleaned up, got myself ready for work and left the house around 6:30 AM. I prefer eating early in the morning because I don't really like carrying food to the construction site. I usually prioritise breakfast and dinner, while I don't eat very frequently in the afternoon. Sometimes I don't get what I crave for on the construction site.

I got to the yard, signed in and went straight to the staff bus. From there, we headed to the site to begin the day's activities. Before joining my colleagues, I stopped at a nearby shop to charge my phone and power bank. By the time I got to the working area, my colleagues had already set up the surveying instruments and were ready to begin. Today was a little different because we had to stay around the machines. We spent most of our time around the areas where clearing and grading were taking place. There were also tippers coming in to offload sand at the areas where filling was needed. With us there, are the safety personnel and the checkers including the white men.

Surprisingly, today's work was not as stressful as some other days. I even got to sit down most of the time while observing the activities around us. When lunch break came, I used the opportunity to catch up with some of my uncles and friends. We had some really nice conversations and discussed different things deeply. While some people went to eat, I stayed back chatting with them. Since I had already eaten breakfast and don't usually eat much in the afternoon, I wasn't really bothered about lunch. I scroll up and down on phone.

After the break, we returned to work and continued with our activities until closing time. Eventually, it was time to leave. We headed back to the yard, signed out and everyone started making their way home. On my way home, I decided to treat myself to something I really enjoy. I stopped at a restaurant and ordered a plate of amala with different proteins and ewedu soup. My mom used to cook it for us when we were in the village and I've been craving for it I explained exactly how I wanted my food prepared, and honestly, I loved the result. It was very delicious.

As a Yoruba man, amala is one of those foods that always feels special. Amala and pounded yam are deeply loved in Yorùbá land, and there is something satisfying about sitting down with a well prepared plate after a long day. The food was so hot and delicious that I was sweating while eating. I started with the proteins and enjoyed them before finishing the amala. After a long day, that meal felt like a well deserved reward. I was so happy and proud of my culture.

When I finally got home, I freshened up, read some passages of Scripture and then sat down to write my diary. Now I am about to go to bed and prepare myself for another day. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my diary. I truly appreciate everyone who follows my daily journey. Until another episode of my diary, stay safe and keep pushing forward.
