Shot from Samsung A05 - Rodent Destroying Books and it Pups

Good afternoon, dear Steemians, I hope this week favors you and all your endeavors in Jesus Christ's name AMEN21X.

Yesterday, I got me in pain and at the same time lessons on how to deal with certain things from the experiences. Rodents and other scavengers attack my books, which I will discuss later. Other records of activities include a visit to grandma, church office, and having a men's fellowship and meeting in the church.

For the clarity of my report, let me sectionize in 3 phases to cover morning, afternoon, and evening records.

Arriving Grandma House

MORNING

After a beautiful morning prayer, I got up with nothing much to do as my son concluded his examinations last week while waiting for the closing ceremony of the term on Tuesday being 24 March 2026. What I did was to review some books that I will write about in my next post.

While I was reviewing, I got a call to come to Ifiayong in Uruan Local Government Area in Akwa. This was about 8 am for me to come and get something for the mother of the newborn baby. I was still reading until my wife had to remind me that grandma told me to come and get something enclosed. I was on my way about 10:20 am.

The Visit to Grandma and items i got

I met her just coming back from her early market to buy and sell smoked fish. I sat with her for some time as she pointed to bunches of plantain and banana. In this part of the world, bananas are used to make “Otor”, a native delicacy that helps to produce breast milk. The children around went and plugged some oranges 🍊 adding to me for my wife. Everything now is about the baby and the mother. It was a beautiful moment with them. I stayed through 12 noon down and heard stories of what has been happening from grandma arranging her fish for sales.

AFTERNOON

At about 1:07 p.m., I returned to Uyo. From Uruan (especially these close communities) to Uyo is a matter of 15 to 20 minutes. After I looked for what to eat, I decided to rest my head. I saw some pieces of paper falling from my shelf to the floor, and I traced it, only to see more until I removed the books one after the other.

I was devastated to see my expensive books chopped off by rodents and scavengers. I had to remove the part of the area where I found the pieces. On the whole, it was clear that my shelf has become their habitat. I found four (4) pups or kittens just delivered 2 days ago, with my pieces of books as a bed and comfortable place for the pups.

Trying to Rearrange my books

I evacuated them and kept them outside. They were very soft and tiny, and I didn't want to kill them. I just had to leave them there, knowing that they would not come inside again. Next was to arrange those books and sweep the whole area while thinking about controlling these rodents against future attacks.

EVENING

I had an appointment at the church office at 5 pm, and I was there, although it was a disappointment. I went to book a bus for a burial by the weekend, but another arm of the church had booked already.

Every Monday, all arms of the church do have either fellowship or business meeting, while women were having theirs, the youths and men did too, so I decided to join the men's fellowship. I was there with them until 6:45 pm. It was night already, and I left immediately after the closing prayers were offered.

At Church office and joining Men's fellowship

I will say that the experience I had with rodents yesterday was not funny. The book they destroyed cost a fortune now. Most of those books were bought during my undergraduate days, and I am still in need of them. But thank God I can still use some parts of the books.

WHAT LESSONS DO I HAVE TO SHARE WITH STEEMIANS?

  1. If you notice rodents and scavengers in your house, don't assume that they do not invade anywhere around your house. Fight them to protect your properties.
  2. Always check your books and other items that are prone to their attacks and do weekly or monthly checks.
  3. Use rodenticide and insecticide where necessary.
  4. Keep your important books and other items in safe places and mostly use good polythene bags to secure them too.

THANK YOU UNTIL I COME YOUR WAY WITH ANOTHER REPORT. I LOVE ❤️ YOU ALL
