I personally think that the driven curating direction from Steemit Inc. is great, as they are partly influencing the interaction on the blockchain.

It is a really great tool to onboard people on Steem and keep them active and have fun and if the resources allow it, Steemit Inc. should try to keep it permanently.

But in general, I don't know what the results would be if we change the whole blockchain token economy to a platform that is focused only on events.

Gamifying the Platform, YES, but concentrating and shifting the whole platform only on reward based events, hmmm...

Still love the brainstorming from your side as a concept of branding the image of Steem in a different way. :)
