When the Lazy Sunday Turned Sweet
They say you get a vote on your birthday.
I say, let’s try.
Deep down, I don’t want to make a big deal out of my birthdays anymore. Childhood birthdays though, that was another story. The excitement of getting the cake, the anticipation — it was huge.
But now? Even cake feels like such a common commodity. Does it even feel special anymore?
I didn’t realize how much I missed that feeling until today. I spent the whole day in bed — classic lazy Sunday. No energy, no plans, no real enthusiasm.
And then came the call.
@event-horizon told me she was coming over in an hour.
Okay, fine! That felt good.
I pulled myself out of bed, dressed up a little, dusted off the Sunday mood.
And there she was.
She brought the most scrumptious cake and her little one with the most adorable birthday card. Or should I say cards? Because this little guy didn’t just stop there. He explained the card to his mom and then Hira decoded it for him. And all through the process he had the most mischievous smile on his face.
The first one? He wrote Happy Birthday in 0 1 code — because clearly, we need some tech-savvy birthday wishes. Or I would say: Like mother, like son! And to spice it up, he played a little prank: he drew aunty (me)... with a moustache. Hahaha!
The second card was a family masterpiece. He drew me (aunty), and next to me is his mom (Hira), then himself, his brother, and his dad. When it came to the grandparents, he decided to "run out of page". Classic artist move. Lol. No, he actually ran out of paper.
That little one truly made my day. I love him to bits.
Sometimes, it’s the simplest things: like showing up with love and cake. These gestures make life feel a little more special again.
My better half was not home today. And surprises like these made my day really special. I'm so thankful for these people in my life.
Oh, last but not least, here’s a picture of how my dad wished me on WhatsApp. I think he was eating some cherries, but he decided to photograph them first, doodle Saalgirah Mubarak سالگرہ مبارک (Be Blessed on your Birthday) in Urdu, and then send me the picture. Creative, isn’t it? Yeah the cover picture is the one sent by him:
This is a simple post.
A reminder to myself to be thankful for these little moments.
To not take anyone’s kindness for granted.
Because life — it’s not about just taking, but also giving.
Make at least one or two real friends.
Enjoy these little gestures.
And, most importantly, be grateful.
It’s moments like these that make life feel a little more meaningful.
You’re welcome to wish me—because it’s my birthday today. 😉

Not really. But you got 194. 😉
He enjoyed a lot creating those masterpieces for you. I should have recorded the way he described the details to me.
We hope that you liked this small effort from our side to put a smile on your face on your birthday.
P.S. Our parents are more creative than we know. 😉

His card was the highlight of the day. My girls kept giggling long after you left.
Yes, you should have, really!
