SLC-S29/W1-“Thinking and Ideas!| If You Were in Charge!”

It’s a pleasure to be part of this new season of Steemit Challenge, today I will be starting with “Thinking and Ideas” class. Being in charge is beyond power, it comes with great weight, pressure and accountability. If I am given the privilege to step into authority for just one year, I will definitely focus on one thing which I think is the root of many problems in my community/ country and what’s that?! Let’s find out below;

If you were given full authority for one year in your community or country, what is the first issue you would address?

Leadership is not about being perfect but about making bold fitting decisions that serves the public interest. If I were given full authority or power for one year in my community or country, the first issue I would address or treat is the broken EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM. I assume that the education is the foundation of change in any society. When citizens are well-educated, they become more aware, mature and also become a contributing members of the society.

In today’s era, many are earning money even at young age which means that money is no longer the primary issues but education is. I will make sure to fix the broken educational system, if you are going into higher institutions to study a four to six years course, that should be it. No strike from Academic Staff Union of Universities which always leads to delay and duration of graduation for students and in turn makes students discouraged from attending schools. During this period, many students try to find their feet and some are lucky to make money while on break which sometimes leads to decision of dropping out.

This is the root of poor system and many with money can’t even comprehend things ( they are usually tagged; “money miss road”), because of poor educational backgrounds. I will also make sure that others who were not given the opportunity to have a classroom experience are able to see the positive side and be encouraged.

Why did you choose this issue over others?

I chose this issue over others like insecurities and lack of employment because most social conflicts results from lack of quality education. A well-educated residents is less likely to engage in crime and more likely to create jobs opportunities and more skills to hold leadership trustworthy restoring the educational foundation will have an after effect on the sectors .

What is that one difficult decision you would have to make?

One difficult decision I would have to make is rechanneling national or neighbourhood services, possibly reducing the budget of secondary sectors to increase the investment in teacher training, syllabus reform and educational facilities. This may cause protest especially from groups that benefit from current funding but at the long run, it will be beneficial to everyone.

How would you explain this decision to people who disagree with you?

To people who oppose, I would explain that while short-term sacrifice are uncomfortable, the long-term benefits is wiser, more powerful and more independent for the society. I would present data, case studies and show accountability in how resources are being used. More essentially I would involve the public in inspecting progress to rebuild trust and ensure everyone understands the goal.

In leadership pressure is constant but the goal remains to serve the people with integrity, transparency, wisdom and courage.
