My Favorite Food: Beans and Plantain Combo

About my favorite food

Beans and plantain is the food I love most. Some people cook them separately; then plate them together, I prefer slicing the plantain and cooking it in the beans, making it a combo😁

From the photo above you can see the creamy mixture of both the sliced plantain and beans porridge garnish with soya beans powder, just describing it makes me salivate😅 The seasoning used in the meal fills the house with its aroma. I can smell curry masala spice, hot leaf and chicken stock with garlic and ginger. That day chose to prepare it in a special way.

I grew up to eating this meal almost twice every month. We grew plantain on our farm, so was never far-fetched, it was mostly from our farm. If I go a whole month without this combo meal, I'll have to file a complaint with my Mom😅

Health benefits of beans and plantain combo

Mixing beans and plantain this way is a common food combo in my country. It's eaten in many household because of its nutritious and health benefits.

  • About Beans

Beans are rich in fiber, good source of iron and calcium for bone health. Just recently, I learned it helps reduce the risk of heart disease. I have been eating beans all these while and didn't even know some of this benefits, seriously! The protein content in beans is also a natural way to adding healthy weight too, instead of using chemical based supplements. I am a slim person, I know I'll not add up much weight, but the protein from the beans helps me build healthy muscle and stay fit alongside my morning workouts.

  • About Plantain

Plantain is rich in calories, and also a good source of fiber too. Calories also help to gain weight naturally, but too much of it without burning it out get stored as fat. Not advisable to eat much quantity for someone that want to lose weight. Good for me because, I'm slim so I need that fat please 😀

This combo is actually a balanced meal. A good source of steady energy because it digest slowly, protein for healthy and strong muscles, fiber for smooth digestion and bowel movement and nutrients for heart health. That is what mostly come to mind when I eat this combo😋 I would recommend it for laborers doing heavy work at a construction site.

Next time I'll be preparing this meal, I'll share step by step process for cooking this delicious beans and plantain combo😋
