A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms | A small Overview
Hello to the community,
It's a good week for the ASoIaF(A Song of Ice and Fire) fans, as the newest series in the world of Westeros has arrived. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is based on the fictional world created by George R.R. Martin. It's a prequel to the Game of Thrones , just like House of the Dragon. The story is about some adventures and transformation of Ser Duncan the Tall ("Dunk"); a hedge knight, and his squire Egg.
The first episode of season 01 was aired on January 18, 2026, on HBO and will have six episodes. As expected, it started rather slowly, but I hope it will get curious and intense with time.

So, let me simply introduce once again about the ASOIAF universe and Westeros for anyone who is confused from one of my previous articles.
The area, which was known as Westoroes, was earlier divided into seven kingdoms and separately ruled by kings. Dorne, the north, the Reach, the riverlands, the stormlands, the Vale, and the westerlands. From them, Aegon I Targaryen (Aegon the Conqueror) conquered 06 kingdoms with his sister-wives, Visenya and Rhaenys, and their dragons, Balerion, Vhagar, and Meraxe, which is known as Aegon's Conquest. He was then coronated as the King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men and Lord of the Seven Kingdoms.

So, this story is between the events in HoTD and the GOT. Let me share a small overview of the timeline.
- 1 AC - Aegon's Conquest
HoTD - 101 AC - The start where Viserys I was chosen as the next heir in the Great Council is set up by King Jaehaerys
- 129 AC to 131AC - Targaryen Civil War
- 153 AC - The last dragon died
‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms - 209 AC - Starting with the Ashford tourney
GoT - 297 AC - starting with the arrival of King Robert to Winterfell
So, as I said earlier, it's about Ser Duncan the Tall, known simply as Dunk, a hedge knight, known for his honour and achievements. In GoT, King Jeffery once mentioned the Book of Brothers/ White Book, where the great deeds of all the Kingsguards were written. And there were four pages about him. So, starting as a simple, low-key man, he turned out to be one of the prominent and important figures in Westeros.
So, the events were about 75 years after the Dance of the Dragons, and around a century before GoT. So, Targerians still ruled Westeros. Dragons were all dead at the time, but there were live memories of them in society. The kingdom has become stable after the civil war, and the Targarians still hold power with honour, while traditions continue to keep the realm.
Well, the first episode started with Dunk burying his master, Ser Arlan of Pennytree. He was the closest family member and mentor to him. Taking his sword, shield, and three horses, he is going to join the tournaments at Ashford Meadow. And along the way, we can see the typical countryside, fields, mountains, rivers, castles, etc just like in the rest of the series.
Along the way, he met Egg, a small yet curious kid who became his squire and companion. But Dunk didn't know that he was no ordinary kid. He is the fourth son of King Maekar Targaryen, and you know he is the younger brother of Master Aemon in GoT. I guess we can see his childhood in this. So, later, after his brothers died, EGG was crowned as Aegon V Targaryen and served well for 25 years. And Ser Dunk became the future Lord Commander of the Kingsguard.
So, what we are going to see is the grooming of two powerful and respected figures from the start. One is trying to become a champion knight and prove himself, and the other who was trying to see and understand the world as a commoner. So, this is going to be an epic friendship and a long journey. Unlike the other two series, there will be fewer fights and chaos, but I hope this will be a nice story as well.
So, that's it for today!! Until the next time! Enjoy!
Thank you.
Best Regards!
