After a one-week Training Program

in Steem Sri Lanka3 years ago (edited)

Well, in the last 2 weeks, I was a bit inactive due to a Training program organized by my current work establishment. Recently I joined an Irrigation project, CSIAP, funded by World Bank. The Climate Smart Irrigated Agriculture Project (CSIAP) is under the Ministry of Agriculture since 2019. As the name suggests the project focuses on climate resilience of Agriculture. So, both water and production are concerned through this project.

This has been implemented in many developing countries in Asia, Africa, South Asia, etc to ensure food security which has become a major problem in the world.

So, the Design Cell of the project in Sri Lanka is conducting training sessions on Hydrological studies using Software applications. The first phase was a two-week one and the next one is scheduled in the upcoming week. Many Engineers and technical officers from the CSIAP Wellaway branch, Central and regional irrigation departments of Badulla, Monaragala, and Hambanthota, and from the Agrarian office of the above districts attended the programme.

It was conducted at the Pelgahathanna training center in Passara. As you can see in the below pictures, the scenery is breathtaking. So, do the meals and the other facilities.

The program was fully free sponsored by the World Bank as a knowledge-sharing forum. Project Director, Deputy project director, Environment Water specialist, head of the design team, and other resource persons from the design office addressed us and commented on the importance of this program for us and the project itself for the country.

As I said, the project is focused on establishing smart agricultural concepts among the farmers. So, along with rehabilitation of small and medium-sized lakes many workshops and other programs are also familiarized to the farmers. Anyway, here they taught us how they select the suitable sub-watersheds of 10 river basins and then the lakes considering various criteria.

In Sri Lanka, vulnerable 11 districts in the dry zone were taken into consideration, with 1,700 minor/medium irrigation schemes. But with the crisis and the budget, these numbers can be significantly changed.

So, up to now, various concepts were taught along with the leading Software used in the industry. So, this will be a great opportunity for my carrier. I will share what happens in the next week with you!

Until the next time! Enjoy!

Thank you.
Best Regards!
