Web of trust: trusting the untrusted
I went for an interview today, I think it went well enough although there will be a psychological evaluation to come so, that's that.
I see that there is a lot of trust involved in this process that either eases or complicates the issue. A friend recommended the job to me saying it is suitable for my skillset and a great place to work as well as suggesting me to the person in charge of filling the position. He has put his reputation on the line with two people. I trust him he is telling the truth, the hiring person trusts his judgement in recommending me.
But once in the interview, I have to trust that the person is going to fairly represent the position, opportunities and benefits, and they have to trust I am going to fairly represent myself in my ability and willingness to fulfil the requirements. If either fails, I could end up in a job very different to expected and they, with an unsuitable employee.
I see this process like meeting a person in a bar looking for a long-term relationship. If either misrepresents too heavily, it is possible to get together, but the relationship is likely doomed from the start as eventually the truth comes out. If both represent themselves well, both can say yes or no and still get what they want as suitability or not can be better evaluated. Of course, desire makes people lie.
If the person is highly attractive it can skew the view and make someone either misrepresent themselves or, be blinded by the flaws in another. Some people let the salary of the job be the only consideration but very few can work well for money alone.
The interviewer asked me for my salary expectations and I said, you know the job involved and what others earn, I do not. I will trust that you will be fair and act in good faith in what you propose. If you aren't, I will discover it soon enough as I work but at that point, you have already hired me and are stuck with me to some degree. I trust you will act in your best interest and that is also in mine.
Of course, from experience I already knew the ballpark numbers which they knew I understood. They proposed as expected. This shows me that I can keep trusting and, it shows they can keep trusting me as up until this point, we have both delivered. I prefer to start relationships from a position of trust but never blind trust, track record matters.
As I see it, I do not want to work for money alone no matter how much I might need it and, I don't want to work for a company who is willing to take advantage at the cost of their employees. When good quality relationships are formed from the get go, the chance of being taken advantage of are heavily reduced and from that point, opportunity opens up wider as buy in is mutual.
Trust is an important factor and can still be held and support self-interest. Essentially in this process we have developed a complicated wen of trust based on relationships between a group of three people where we all have various benefits and costs to having it broken. I find the process interesting and the honesty of it today refreshing. It doesn't mean we are well suited yet but, chances are much higher asked time will tell.

Cheers.
Trust is psychological and exhibits a certain degree of innocence, hope and vulnerability. In a utopia we would have complete and pure trust. Sadly evil exists and destroys this option. So we think both with our head and our heart. Thanks @tarazkp
Trust can also been seen as another form of risk management where it is delivered in degrees. I see this situation built in degrees of trusted relationship.
I hope it goes well and a better position for you and family
Yep, if I get it it will increase my week by 40 hours but I can manage that and it should help us immensely.
The extra hours hurt but it’s best. Wife has to complete schooling if she takes a break the odds are she will never go back.
Is there another interview or that part done
I hope you find out real soon
I am pretty sure just the psych eval to come but I suspect the result will be "totally broken" and they will dismiss it as some anomaly. What they won't consider of course is I am on Steem still and completely crazy ;P
How are you doing?
LOL
I am hanging in there. Chemo is hard . I will not quit.
It’s harder on the family
Posting on steemit is helping me mentally and drive
I will know more with this upcoming cat scan. Blood tests look great
That is good to hear and I am glad you are getting "writer healing". Someone close to me is going through chemo also and it has been taking a heavy hand on her but, giving up is for pussies isn't it? ;)
Yes it is
It is hard . Give her a shoulder to just let it go and have a good cry. She will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Giving up is the worst thing to do. She can and will beat it.
Give her hug for me 😘
Well, if what you say with regard to trust, between both parties plays a very important role so that an employer-employee relationship grows on solid foundations since we are always the employees who put most of our effort, be it physical or mental for a company that is not its own to go ahead. And always what we must win must be consonant with our aptitudes and attitude in front of that new challenge to face. Because even if you know what you are going to do by our abilities, it will be something new.
Success friend.

When there is a good relationship between employee and company, both benefit.
Sure friend that is one of the main objectives
I like your approach. I've always tried to present myself well, but I wouldn't lie or promise things that I couldn't deliver on. I've wanted my jobs/relationships/friendships to be based on honesty. Because if they're not, it's not going to benefit either person, and we could both miss out on better opportunities.
Hopefully the rest of the evaluation goes well and that you're able to reach a mutually beneficial agreement. :)
When it comes to employment, it isn't good to go into it as if it is going to be a one night stand.
If it goes well I think there are increased options for the future also and I might even be able to influence a project or two on Steem :D
A very enjoyable read; there is some 'wisdom' tucked within your comments/assessments... Best wishes for you and your families future.
Ciao
There is wisdom all over the blockchain isn't there? It is actually a really good place for developing understanding if one takes the time to see value past numbers.
Thanks mate.
You're quite welcome tarazkp.

Exciting news as you well deserve something great for your family as this experiment continue down its path to a better future! I have taken the same approach when considering new positions as I know my worth and do not like to ask as it is their job to attract and retain me given my value. Imbalance will always catch up to either side that is giving too much and force change...

I hope things move on as hoped and expected.
Hubby got a new job about 6 months ago and things started our well. He got everything running smoother, upped production to the level that the owner wanted, but the longer he's there, the more the owner's true colours show and he's nothing short of a bully. He sets impossible targets, then lays into the workers when he doesn't get what he wants. Everyone's walking on eggshells around him, never sure if he's going to explode or be reasonable for once.
