You haven't read the alchemist! You must, it's considered one of the best books. Also, read the story of how the author launched the book, if I'm not mistaken the author sold the book door to door before the book actually picked up the pace and started selling by itself. I might be confusing it with another book, but I'm almost certain that it was that one.
