TIL Why Garlic Makes Our Breathe Smell
Ever Eaten a delicious Trinchado from your favourite Portuguese restaurant down the road ? and then have your S/O Tell you how horrible your breath smells afterwards.
Well today, ill be explaining why garlic makes your breath smell terrible.
Its actually quite interesting this, members of the Allium Plant Family - Garlic, Leeks, Shallots, Onions ect. - produce a type of Sulfoxide called cysteine sulfoxide. Funny enough, these compounds are nearly the same as the compound produced by the anaerobic bacteria (Which causes bad breath)
Now that we have that out of the way, There are 2 main ways these stinky veggies can cause bad breath
The First way
Due to the nature of the garlic, when you eat the garlic the sulfuric compounds get in your mouth and will immediately give you bad/garlic breath.
The Second way
The second way arose from a study released in the Journal of the American Medical Association found here where they fed a person garlic soup through a pipe straight into their stomach. They found that after 3 hours they could smell garlic in the patients breath. The way this works is that a gas called AMS ( Allyl methyl sulfide) is absorbed into your blood during the garlics metabolism state. From the blood the AMS is then transferred to your lungs where it is then exhaled giving off the delicious garlicy breath smell.

So the solution to this is basically stop breathing or stop eating it. Or just don't give a shit. :D
I would go for the latter!
