TODAY IS WORLD PLAY THE UKULELE DAY!

in #todayis7 years ago

Every day provides us with opportunities to celebrate. Today I invite you to celebrate the Ukulele.

THE UKULELE

It’s World Play the Ukulele Day!
You use your fingers to play.

Ukulele translates to “jumping flea.”
A silly name, most would agree.

Portuguese immigrants to Hawaii,
are credited with making the ukulele tiny.

It’s part of the Hawaiian culture,
the biggest supporter was no other,

than Kalakaua, Hawaii’s last king.
At royal performances, musician strummed the strings.

History aside,
musicians make it alive,

with fingers in place,
they add their musical taste.

The ukulele was Tiny Tim’s choice,
to accompany his falsetto voice.

Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwoʻole’s popularity did explode,
with his rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”

So, did you play,
a ukulele today?

When I think about the Ukulele, Tiny Tim's "Tiptoe Through The Tulips," is the first song that comes to mind.
