Top 5 Chips
I don't think I have ever found a person who a) never tried corn or potatoes chips b) disliked them completely. It's a delicious snack that satisfies even the strongest of appetites. As a kid, I would eat them regularly. I love them!
Personally, I enjoyed the chips from Mexico. From the taste, to the trinkets, and even caloric measurements alluded my taste buds. Reminscining on old snacks, I decided to write my Top 5 Chips
(They are in no hierarchic order)
Let's Begin:
3D Doritos
Who remember these? They were so amazing! I love the concept to put your chips in a cup. I thought to myself, what a wonderful way to free my hands and to consume them in one BIG bite! I think the first time I tried them was a small liquor store next to the Church I would go with my family. I was excited to go to Church, because I knew my mom would give me $1 to buy em' after. Sad that they discontinued this product.
Colmillos
I love spicy chips. However this kind of spicy is different from the hot cheetoh chips. It's difficult to describe exactly what kind of seasoning they added. But I had memorable moments with my younger brother acquiring this chip. We would go to elementary school in California, specifically LA, and every afterschool session, we would have "vendedoras" or ladies in baby carts selling a wide variety of snacks. The selection was huge, and they never missed an after school to sell. Well, every afterschool, their "cart stores" would be filled with children buying different snacks. It was hard for the seller to keep track of what was being sold. This led to many thefts. I made some of them. I would position my brother behind me, and grab what we wanted and backhanded him the items. When we had what we wanted we would walk away. It was easy stuff to steal. We would walk back home, and he would say, isnt this bad? I told him yes, but it is also deliciously evil.
Note: Picture all of these snacks, tightly fit in a baby cart, and that's the afterschool LAUSD snack market
Bolitas
Again, this has the perfect balance with spices and cheesy flavors packed into a round ball. Whenever I ate these chips, I always wished I had the power to magically inflate some more. They are absolutely addicting.
Fritos: Honey BBQ
This one is weird, it's not really the flavor that caught my interest, rather the memory of the first time I tried it, stored in my head. Like it was yesterday, I was 10 when I first found out about this chip in a "panaderia" or in a bakery. I never seen this before, and I was fascinated by the twist geometry Fritos developed. Having it found in a panaderia my two favorite snacks: sweet bread and chips this feeling stuck forever.
Takis
I'm a fan of spicyness. The first time I tried this was when I was 15. My old man brought it from work one time. I was puzzled because a) he never brought anything from work b) chips wouldn't be in his radar. But he told me that when he was little those were his favorite. And for good reason, when I first tried them, my mouth was caught in a wildfire. The flavors that my tounge experience was like none other.
Chips, now a days, just don't seem to catch my attention like when I was little. Maybe I just haven't visited a store that sells Mexican chips, but hopefully one day I can find them and relive my childhood memories. For those who are chip lovers what are your favorite Chips? Thanks for reading!
where can i get those 3d doritos?? woah!
I wish I knew :(
But they were fantastic!
Yummm, being a chip lover myself I appreciate your blog. I do love Doritos and chips I make myself with Potato Skins.
Marita (Anybody can Cook)
Doritos are absolutely the best. Something about the triangular geometry captures my attention. I love to fit it perfectly inside my mouth and capture all the flavors at once! Thank you by the way, I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
