$NVDA Can anyone help me understand how mining works in 2023 for the typical person that will allegedly be buying new GPUs instead of any of the 40,000+ used ones on eBay?
The average electricity rate is $16.09 / kWh. Is the idea that you lose a few bucks per day on electricity in the hopes that one day $BTC doubles and you can pay off your debts incurred from mining? i.e. expensive video cards, the power itself, and depreciation on the rest of the hardware. Also presuming your time is not of any value (not that you'd need to spend all that much), and then finally capital gains tax?
Seems like there are better uses of time and resources.

Question: Say there’s an event that always causes crypto to move (like cpi data being released). If you lever long $100 and lever short $100, can’t you just profit the direction crypto moves after cpi gets released, and only lose $100 for the direction crypto didn’t move? Seems like zero risk.
- you would lever 10x so profit the direction crypto moves with only a downside of $100
-if you can’t short and long on the same exchange, then use different exchanges
