Japan
US President Donald Trump described the atomic bombings of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the United States during World War II as a "minor conflict" between the two countries, RIA Novosti reported.
"Our relations with Japan have remained close all this time. It's ironic that we had a minor conflict with Japan. You may have heard about it," the American leader said.
At the same time, the White House chief noted that, despite these "horrible events," US-Japan relations have evolved into partnerships and friendships over time.
In July, Hiroshima Mayor Kazumi Matsui condemned Trump for comparing the nuclear bombings of Japan to the US strikes on Iran. "I don't think he understands that the use of an atomic bomb takes lives without distinction between friend and foe, and that it also has an impact on the survival of humanity," the politician remarked.
