Koh Phuket - Big Buddha
Since over one week I was waiting for a sunny day here on phuket to make a trip to the famous Big Buddha Statue. Yesterday the sky finally cleared and the sun came out again.
The Big Buddha Statue is the new landmark here on Phuket, the construction started around 2004 and still haven´t finished it completely. We´ve been here before and since that a lot has changed.
Seit über einer woche warte ich hier auf Phuket auf einen sonnigen Tag um die berühmte Big Buddha Statue zu besuchen. Gestern hat sich der Himmel endlich geklärt und die Sonne kam wieder raus.
Die Big Buddha Statue ist das neue Wahrzeichen hier auf Phuket, der Bau begann um 2004 und ist noch nicht vollständig abgeschlossen. Wir waren schon einmal hier und seitdem hat sich viel verändert.
The drive to the Statue - Die Fahrt zur Statue
Since we always prefer to drive by ourself with the scooter rather thn taking a taxi the journey to the Buddha itself was already pretty cool.
Our trip started in the very south of the Island in Rawai. The first 20 mins were quite stressful as we had to take the busy main road were a lot of construction is going on at the moment.
It actually is quite easy to navigate on Phuket even without GPS, as the signs are pretty clearly. However the sign leading to the Big Buddha wasn´t the biggest and I missed the exit on the first try.
But once you´ve left the main road it´s a beautiful drive to the top...
Da wir immer lieber mit dem Roller fahren, anstatt ein Taxi zu nehmen, war die Fahrt zum Buddha selbst schon ziemlich cool.
Unsere Reise begann im Süden der Insel in Rawai. Die ersten 20 Minuten waren ziemlich stressig, da wir die belebte Hauptstraße nehmen mussten, wo gerade viel gebaut wird.
Es ist eigentlich ganz einfach, selbst ohne GPS auf Phuket zu navigieren, da die Zeichen ziemlich eindeutig sind. Allerdings war das Schild zum Big Buddha nicht das Größte und ich habe die Ausfahrt beim ersten Versuch verpasst.
Aber sobald man die Hauptstraße verlassen hat, ist es eine schöne Fahrt nach oben ...
In a sharp curve we drove past some small huts with a beautiful 40 year old Elephant. On the spots on her skin you could see that she was quite old.
In einer scharfen Kurve fuhren wir an ein paar kleinen Hütten mit einem wunderschönen 40 Jahre alten Elefanten vorbei. An den Flecken auf ihrer Haut konnte man sehen das sie schon recht alt war.
The View - Die Aussicht
The closer we got to the statue the better we could see her. Finally we reached the big gate that led us to the area.
When we finally parked our scooter on the huge parking lot, we first enjoyed the view. Which is really breathtaking from up here
Je näher wir der statue kamen desto besser konnten wir sie sehen. Schließlich erreichten wir das große Tor das uns zum Gelände führte.
Als wir endlich unseren Roller auf dem riesen Parkplatz abgestellt hatten, genoßen wir erst einmal die Aussicht. Welche wirklich atemberaubend ist von hier oben.

The Big Buddha
The Big Buddha is a 45m high and at the base 25m wide marble statue. It is still under construction and for a small donation you can buy a small marble slab with your name on it, which will then be used for the completion of the pedestal.
Der Big Buddha ist eine 45m hohe und am Sockel 25m breite Marmor Statue. Sie befindet sich noch immer im Bau und für eine kleine Spende kann man eine kleine Marmorplatte mit seinem Namen drauf kaufen, welche dann für die Fertigstellung des Sockels verwendet wird.

There are statues everywhere in and around the Buddha. I really liked the big Buddha statue made of brass, as well as the many golden monks standing around the big buddha.
In addition to Buddhas and monks, one often sees snakes symbolizing hatred and aggression in Buddhism.
Im und um den Buddha herum stehen überall Statuen. Sehr gut gefallen hat mir die große Budda Statue aus Messing, sowie die vielen goldenen Mönche, welche um den großen Buddha herum stehen.
Außer Buddhas und Mönchen sieht man auch sehr oft Schlangen, welche im Buddhismus Hass und Aggressionen symboliseiren.

We had a wonderful morning and could have spent even more time up there, but it was getting really hot and I needed a dip into the pool.
Wir hatten einen wundervollen Morgen und hätten noch mehr Zeit dort verbringen können, aber es wurde sehr heiß und ich brauchte ein Bad im Pool.

This is random but the quality of these photos remind me of the first time I played Sonic the Hedgehog on SEGA Dreamcast. Absolutely stunning!! What kind of lens do you use? Did you edit them, or are those the original colors?

Yeah I've seen quite a few temples here in Thailand. Most of them in the Bangkok area as they have tons of Wats :D
