You would think that the world's driest desert lies somewhere in the Middle East or Africa. But in fact, the world's driest desert is right here in Chile. The Atacama Desert didn't received a single drop of rain, since record keeping began, until 2015 when it rained so much in 1 day that there was flood!

If you have a car or can rent one in Chile, I would highly recommend driving there; it's always nice to do a road trip. But if you prefer to fly, the nearest city would be Calama. You can fly to Calama and then from there, you can easily take a bus or van to San Pedro de Atacama. The bus ride is about an hour and a half.
