Celebrating Easter in Siquijor

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Hi everyone!

So here it is, the long wait. I promised to take photos of our island when I come here. I did manage to get some. I was born here, I've been living here for years but I've never visited some of these places here. So stay with me and enjoy reading!

After such a long trip, traveling through air, land and water, I finally made it home. I got home late at night and the next morning, this is what I see. This is the view in front and back of our house. We have the sea and rice field. I swear, whenever I come home, I feel like my lungs would heal from all the pollution I get in the city.

I did share this view with you before but I took a photo again because I just love this place. I come here almost everyday and go swimming. We don't even need a pool.

Later that day, I visited the largest convent in Asia...

This is what you see when you pass through the gate.

There's a mini museum inside but we're not allowed to take photos so just take a moment to look at my photo instead :D

It's just about 1000 meters from our house. I used to study here when I was in 1st year high school. There's a school next to this and we used to go inside because our teachers would sometimes conduct classes inside the convent but now they don't conduct classes there anymore. There's actually tons of tourists that would go there everyday. In front of that is the church...

I went there on Easter and there's so many people coming out of the church after the mass. The people participated on the procession also. It's how we celebrate Easter here.

We even light torches on street. I don't know why we do that. We just do that every year. Maybe because it looks majestic? What do you think?

The guys wearing colored robes represent Jesus' apostles.

My mom and I also went to Bandilaan. During Easter, a lot of people go there because there would be some sort of medicines sold and they are thought to have healing powers. There's even love potions you can buy there. There's also people that would give you a massage for a cheap price or you can go there just to visit this mountain. There's so many people that goes there on Easter and my mom here is even struggling to find a parking space.

This mountain is the peak of the island. If you come here, you'll be able to see the whole island on 360 degrees but you had to go through the stairs first and I'm telling you, it's sooooo long that I had to catch my breath when I got there. Then there's this tower.

but then, after all those hard earned steps, you'll be able to see this view and it truly rewarding.

People would set up tents too and sleep here.

It was my first time to visit here and it was extraordinary. I don't think I will ever forget this experience.

That is all, see you next time on my next post. I hope you enjoyed reading ;)

Hai where this location, name location and country?

hello :D this is in Siquijor, Philippines :) I've posted some beach photos in here before if you want to check it out. Anyway, I'll be posting more photos later :)

Wow! It sounds much more fun than what we usually do in Poland ^^ I have to say it again: I was born in wrong place :/

hahahahah, I would never know unless I see Poland

Easter, Birthday, Name Day (yeah, we have something crazy and stupid like that lol) and Christmas in Poland look almost the same. I will tell you about it, but I won't write a post about it because it's embarrassing.

okay :D I would love to hear everything

love it! upvoted and followed :)
