I know I know, you clicked on this post because you are wondering how in the planet can someone travel around the world in just one day. Well it's all possible when you visit the Ethnic Enrichment Festival every year!
We love taking our kids to experience different countries and their cultures by seeing what they wear, how they dance, the crafts they make and by what they eat. Who wouldn't want to take advantage of traveling around the world in just one day? I'm going to take you along with us to some of the places we visited...
Passports
When you visit the Enrichment Festival the children are handed passport books that they can get stamped along the way from every country they visit. This is so much fun AND it's great for our homeschool records! Our kids really enjoyed this part and made sure their books were stamped at every stop.
Jamaica
Jamaica had a lot of nice crafts for us to see. Their shirts and scarves were so colorful. The coconut shell and straw purses were very well hand crafted as well as the coconut shell earrings!
Cuba
Cuba displayed my favorite craft...Crochet!! I was so excited when I walked up and saw these beautiful brightly colored handmade crochet purses!
Samoa
Samoa had a lot to see. Their food menu had some yummy and familiar foods listed. So it was easy when deciding where to eat. They also had bright colorful clothing on display and for sale. The best of their crafts were the Samoan necklaces and scarves.
Pakistan
Pakistan displayed some really beautiful hand sewn pieces. The detailed bead work in their clothing and handbags were amazing! The kids were ready to move on but you know how it is, from a crafters view this was my zone! 😁
Japan
Japan also had a colorful display for all to see. They had these really cute clay painted owls. Our kids were really excited about the colorful kites to choose from!
Philippines
Philippines had their woven plates on display. I am one to appreciate the detailed work of such crafts.
Other Countries visited
Rest
When you are traveling the world by foot you will need your rest. There were several spots along the way for you to do so. The sun was really beaming so the shaded spots under the big trees were pretty full. The hay stacks in the middle of the walkways were not so full because there was no escape from the hot sun there.
Performers
The Ethnic Enrichment Festival always has educational entertainment. You get to see performers from the different countries and how they dance or fight. We had a good time watching them this year and even were able to snap a pic with some. 😃

I love this!!! This is such a cultural experience for the kids (and for most adults) It is so fun to give a taste of each country with their clothes, food and major exported items. What an education. It really touches the taste buds for travel at a young age.

Washington DC has a similar festival every June (it coincides with the 4th of July) that runs for almost three weeks called the Folklife Festival and every year several countries are showcased.
I have to admit, I love the idea of the passports! Way cool!!! Thanks for posting!!!

It really is an enriching experience! I agree that it gives children a nice taste of travel! I am so grateful for all that take the time to get these festivals together especially for people like my family who don't get to travel often. The passports are such a nice touch and the kids can keep them as souvenirs forever :)
