The Waterfalls Near Iligan City Part 4

This is part 4 of my post about Iligan City's waterfalls. Please check out Parts 1, 2, and 3 if you haven't read them already.

My former classmate who wishes to remain anonymous has sent me some good pics of some these waterfalls which he visited. There were a lot of these pics in his collection available so I decided to make them into a series of posts with his kind permission.

Lumbatin Falls

Lumbatin Falls is Located in Barangay Pugaan, which is 7.2 kilometers from the city proper.

The rock wall of the waterfalls is called Tufa Limestone. It slowly grows year after year. My former classmate admits he isn't an expert on rocks and minerals, but, according to his comparisons with the pictures found on the internet, it may look like the rocks around the falls are made up of tufa limestone.

The rock wall found here on the waterfalls slowly grows, though he had never measured it. He believes the surrounding landscape here was submerged underwater, sea water to be exact from the distant past. He could not tell exactly how many millions of years old.

He may be wrong or he maybe right, but for him travelling the waterfalls isn't just about the journey and adventure of a lifetime but also for interaction with the locals. That's the reason he always hire locals to guide him to find the waterfalls and he always gave them some generous tips.

The first time he'd been here was in April 2011. Though he knew the location of the Lumbatin Falls, he always hire the local kids to guide him there. He had a vision and he's hopeful that someday these waterfalls could be a part of the local tourism industry.

At first going to see these waterfalls is like as he said earlier, a form of spiritual healing. An exercise or lifestyle because going to the waterfalls requires physical and psychological efforts. Like his running buddies would often say, "It isn't for the faint hearted ".
