Journey to the Baikal. Continuation)
Olkhon Island, part 1.
Hi! Earlier I started a series of posts about the trip to Lake Baikal. This is the second post from this series. In it I will tell you about a trip to the island of Olkhon, which is located in the lake itself.
To get to the island you need to cross the ferry.
Afterwards there is a trip to the nearest large settlement - this is the village of Khuzhir. It has about 1300 people. In total, the island is home to approximately 1,700 people. The length of the island is 73.5 km., width - up to 15 km., area - 730 km2. To the east of the island is the deepest place of Lake Baikal - 1642 m. On Olkhon you can see a great variety of landscapes of nature: the steppe, sandy beaches, bays, dense forests, marble rocks decorated with dense red mosses and marshes.
One of the most famous sights of Baikal is located on Olkhon near the village of Khuzhir - Shamanka Rock. On the western side of the cliff there is a natural output of brown rock that looks like a dragon image.
In the rock there is a cave, local shamans still hold their rituals there. Shamanka Rock is located on the Burhan cape - this is one of the most sacred places not only for those who profess shamanism. At this natural temple one can meet a praying christian, sitting in meditation of a buddhist or a yogi. Here everyone can feel their union with Nature or the Universe)
