Despite the fact that a lot of people choose Austrian slopes for winter travel and winter sports, I still agree with the info you already have. I am not a pro, but I do have some skiing skills, and for me Austrian slopes are very hard. Have you considered France? At least just google best ski areas in France, and I am sure that if you go somewhere there, your vacation and first experience will turn out way better. I am serious. France impressed me way more when it comes to ski resorts.
