My visit to Hyderabad (Day2) - A tour of History (Part 2)

The evil that men do lives after them

After the delight of the watching the statues and idols from ages ago, we moved to the wing which was displaying the artifacts from the late medieval India era. It was just the regular dining tables and chairs, decorations, chandeliers, candle stands and stuff. Stuff that I found boring until I realized something horrifying.

People were standing and admiring the skill and hard labor of the sculptor. While the artifacts were not crafted on any stones but on the Ivory. To be honest, I had never seen anything like this. But then there is the fact that these swords, sheath, stories and all the other items were carved on Elephant tusks. The poor animals were hunted for their tusks and bones just so that people can make ornaments out of it. The thought made me sad. I just stood there and wondered about how many elephants were hunted down during that period, Not that it has stopped now but they were hunted without any restraints. That section was showcasing hundreds of Ivory pieces. And by the time I reached the below unit (They had made frigging tables and chairs out of the ivory) I was so saddened that the only thing I could do was walk out of the section and wait for my friends to join me to the next wing.

Never thought of me as a sentimental fool, the funny part is getting emotional over elephants killed centuries ago.

I am @inuke.

And I am sad, for there are people who think to own such items is a matter of great pride.
