Nakalele Blowhole, Maui, Hawaii
If you drive north on the westside of Maui, past Kapalua, the last resort town on this part of the island, you end up on a narrow, winding road that skirts along dramatic cliffsides, deep red volcanic soil slopes and verdant, pine speckled hillsides - all of this flanked by the deep blue Pacific Ocean. It's truly a sight that needs to be seen. Just be aware, the road gets quite narrow and can be dangerous.
But, it's worth it because you can end up pulling off the shoulder and scaling down a rocky slope to one of the best blowholes ever. When the tide is right and the waves are rushing in, the ocean will spray as high as 40 feet, sometimes even more.
This is a short video of my kids and their friends enjoying a mellow day in the spray of the saltwater. I normally wouldn't let them get this close, but this was about the smallest I've seen it there. So, I let them explore a bit.
Hope you enjoy. Let me know if there's anything else you'd like to learn about the islands.
