Travel Fun

I just boarded a plane in Newark (EWR) bound for Hong Kong. In the gangway walking from the building to the plane we were confronted with security officers and a nasty looking/sounding drug/bomb sniffing dog.

I have never had this happen on international flights.

Is this common on flights to Hong Kong/China? It were they perhaps looking for something in particular?
