Day Trip Travel Adventure to Limehouse Conservation, Ontario Pictures and Video :)

in #travel7 years ago

Limehouse Conservation Area is located on the Niagara Escarpment near Limehouse, Ontario. The area is known for a system of deep rock fissures and crevices, some of which are accessible from the trail via ladders at the location known as the "Hole in the Wall" and is a part of the Bruce Trail.

I thought this tree was really cool how its roots are gripping onto the rock for dear life :P haha

The big boulder looks so precarious, like it is ready to fall at any moment.

Here is a picture I took of one of the ladders that takes you into the crevasses. The ladders are definitely well worn and made of old wood boards but that just adds more to the experience and made it all that much more enjoyable!

The area has a few major attractions including a beautiful stone bridge that crosses over the credit river, the remains of a somewhat hidden smaller kiln, another larger vertical limestone kiln and a small masonry powder magazine house that was built to store sensitive black powder used in the blasting process of the old limestone quarry.

Here is a short video I took of the stone bridge. I thought this was the best part of the day trip. It isn't often that you see a little stone bridge like this in the forest.

I would love to see how these old kilns were used. With all the advancements in technology, a lot of these "old ways" are unfortunately being lost.

This is the larger vertical kiln, even though it is fenced off you can still walk around the entire thing to get views from all angles.

Last but not least, this is the masonry powder magazine house.

We had such a wonderful time on this day trip, I would most certainly recommend it to anyone who loves hiking and outdoor adventures! If your still not convinced here is a short video that I made documenting our day trip. Enjoy!
