Magic Places - Ta Prohm

in #travel7 years ago

Even those who haven't visited Angkor might know this place. It was featured in the first Tomb Raider movie together with some other places in Angkor.

Angkor was the capital of the Khmer empire, which lasted until the 15th century. Since then the various temples slowly decay while nature takes back more and more of the area. It's a fascinating sight, especially in the Ta Prohm temple, where huge fig trees grow within the ruins.

Ta Prohm

Ta Prohm is one of the smaller temples near Siem Reap. Angkor Wat might be the most popular and also the largest. Thousands of tourists visit it each day before continuing on to the other temples.

The masses are clearly taking its toll on the area. It's just a crazy bustle, which already starts early in the morning. In the five days I spent in Siem Reap there were only a few occasions where I could enjoy the temples in solitude.

At Ta Prohm I usually waited already half an hour before they opened the gates to be able to get in before the masses. Being the first one in the compounds and hence the only person walking through the labyrinth was wonderful. For a few minutes Ta Prohm revealed its magic.

Hallway

But the silence didn't hold and after taking the first few photos it became impossible to get a photo devoid of people. That was also the reason why I came there three times in order to get the photos I was after.

Apsara

But despite the crowds I count Ta Prohm as a magic place and I hope that it withstands the rush of visitors a little longer.

And remember, as with all places you visit on your travels: take only photos, leave only footprints. We live in a crowded world and thus it's more important than ever to be thoughtful during our travels.

It does look magical, and I know the trick of returning and returning till you get the shots you want. It worked.Great photography, and great to have another photographer on Steemit! Welcome! My power is way down tonight, so enjoy tour tip!

Hello @dmcamera thanks a lot for the tip :-) It's great that more and more photographers come over here... I think it's tarting to get a photo community

Wow what an amazing place to have been! I think I do recognize some places from the Tomb Raider film, the second shot with the columns is amazing, I can imagine its the kind of place you could take photos for days!

Yea there's so much to explore. On every visit you find some new detail

I'm sure! There must be hidden little spots that are just crying out to be photographed !

That sun star makes the place look even more epic than it already is!
I was there a couple of years ago and I absolutely loved it. I couldn't help but imagine life back in the day around those majestic temples. Like you said, I too hope that it manages to withstand the rush of tourists for a while longer.

Great photos! Looking forward to see more :)

Thank you. I guess a few years ago it must have looked even more magical. They now have quite some construction going on and are building some platforms and wooden walkways so the visiters no longer walk on the decaying structures so much. But it's still a magical place

Beautiful photos of an amazing place! Thank you! The sunrise gives a lot of mystery to the pictures.

Good for you for being so diligent to arrive early, and try several times! It surely paid off! The photos are so mysterious. The roots of the trees look like something from a movie (ha-well I guess they are!) I too love photograping places like this-but it is so challenging with all the tourists. It must have been surreal to wander it alone. I'm curious to see it packed with people...I'm sure it takes away from the magic.

It definitly does. It's hard to walk through some of the hallways because they get very crowded. And then there are some spots where everyone takes a photo, so there's even kind of a queue, can you believe it ;-)

Great shots, dude. I think the middle one is my pick of the three. Nice big sun-star in the first one. What lens did you use for that? Is the third one HDR?

Great shots! I have found you by @ansharphoto post.

An amazing work and inspiration.
Good job @mibreit-photo

This is so beautiful ; hope to get there one day
