7 World’s Continents Photo Challenge - African Wednesday week #32 - VAN RHYN'S PASS
This photo was taken on the meandering Van Rhyn's Pass, South Africa, on the escarpment between Van Rhynsdorp and Neuwoudtville. I took this photo in 2012 when my sister and I did an unforgettable road trip. The mesmerising pass has a steep gradient and several hairpin turns. I was the very nervous driver, but hey, the views were worth it. We visited in December, but during August and September this same photo would have depicted the famed Namaqualand flowers. I like the harsh and stark beauty of this photo, though. The pass was built by Thomas Bain in 1880.
