   SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA CATHEDRAL

A mixture of history, monument and catholic ... Perfect travel plan to go!

Located in Galicia, province of La Coruña, the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, as it is known by the community of Galicia, is a temple of Catholic worship that undoubtedly marks a trend in all the parishioners of the city, since in its origins It tells that it is built in the tomb of the apostle Santiago, which is attractive for many faithful and pilgrims since its creation in the Middle Ages and today.

Being its holiday on July 25 of each year, since for this date it is considered as the day of Santiago. This can be seen best reflected in the events that took place in 1122 by Pope Calixto (II), who declared a Jubilee year whenever the aforementioned date was given on a Sunday so that it could be celebrated in full commemoration of this character of the Catholic doctrine.

Likewise, it is necessary to mention that this site of historical, cultural & architectural interest is considered as an Asset of Cultural Interest in Spain since 1896 & as a World Heritage Site (whs) by U.N.E.S.C.O since 1986.

Thus giving great value to this construction dating back to ( around ) 1075-1211 & that was by initiativee of Alfonso (II) of Asturias King of Spain at the mmoment who ordered by influence of the clergy to build this great architectural work that has undoubtedly transcended through history as a point of interest for the faithful of Catholicism.

Now, the construction of this great building takes a certain time, because of its style of yesteryear and getting everything necessary for such a magnificent work required time and a lot of manpower that can be seen appreciated in its final finish.

In 1790 the baroque style made a small influence in some parts of the cathedral but that certainly did not detract from the greatness of it. The structure of the Cathedral has all the common and normal spaces that a church has today only unlike all the spaces you have carved sketches, shapes and sculptures of the Apostle Santiago.

It is worth noting that this emblematic site of the city of Galicia is one of the most important parts of this area of the province of Catalonia, as the tourist and religious attraction it brings is of great influence, is one of the main points of interest to Visit in this particular city.

This temple is considered a pilgrimage church, this Romanesque style architecture, keeps its importance in medieval times and keeps inside the alleged remains of the apostle James, it is really admirable how these buildings have been preserved over time.

The Cathedral of Compostela is really fascinating this architectural work of Romanesque style, which shows us the Catholics and those belonging to other religious currents, the roads that for those centuries were used for these buildings that were used for the service of religion, the privileged and very predominant in feudalism.
