One of the Best Free Views in Mexico City

Do you have a day in Mexico City and nothing to do? Are you looking for a way to wow! your loved one without breaking the bank? Do you want to do some original shit and not just see El Zocalo (big Mexican flag), Chapultepec Park (lots of trees), or worse yet, the Frida Kahlo museum (Gringolandia)? Well then, you’re in luck, my friend. I know a place that not only has one of the most remarkable views in the city, but also 8 floors of well-made, reasonably priced home appliances, furniture and spring apparel. Yeah, that’s right, I’m talking about Sears! The best free view in Mexico City—that is, if you don’t spend all your money on that fancy new refrigerator on sale on your way out.

On the 8th floor of the Sears building located directly across from the Palacio de Bellas Artes in El Centro, in the furniture department (hook a left after you pass the suede magenta-colored futon) is a little café with an amazing view of the Alameda Central Park, the Palacio de Bellas Artes (indubitably one of Mexico’s most beautiful buildings), and the mountains behind the city (which depending on how contaminated the air is that day, you may or may not be able to see).

So grab a café (or an horchata mixed with cacao!) and selfie the fuck out of your afternoon! And when you tire of watching Asian tourists flashing full-frontal peace signs in front of the vista, there’s a strange red hued pigeon that Sears has apparently hired to tight-rope the balcony’s ledge performing funny pigeon dances and head movements certain to keep you entertained.

If you don’t know what to do with yourself in the monster that is CDMX, I suggest you grab a campechano taco or street corn smothered in mayo, cheese and picante, and take your ass to the best Sears in the Americas.

Trust me, you won’t regret it.

The weird line in the furniture department of Sears as folks wait to see the pigeon...or rather, the view.
