Central American Vacation
It's been four years since I've had any sort of vacation. I went to Houston for a few days, and Chicago for a day, but I won't count those since they involved work or family obligations. As a side note, Houston is a bizarre city. More on that in another post.
Anyway, I figured it's time to go somewhere nice and warm. The destination was originally gonna be Hawaii, but I heard from several people that Costa Rica is a cheaper, more convenient spot to visit. It also has comparable natural beauty, and its biodiversity is unmatched.
So here's the itinerary: We start off with a few days near Arenal Volcano. Here's a pic:
It's been dormant since 2010, but the hiking is supposed to be great. Hundreds of streams, waterfalls, and hot springs in the surrounding rainforest.
While we're in the area, we're going to go white water rafting on the Sarapiqui river.
From Arenal, we travel to Manuel Antonio National Park. It's supposed to be one of the best beaches in the country - absolutely pristine. Here's a pic:
We're mostly going to just hang out during the few days at the beach, but we do have two little activities scheduled. First, we're doing a short horseback tour of the park. Then we're going to do some nighttime ocean kayaking (apparently the algae in the ocean lights up at night).
Finally, we're going camping on an island just off the coast - Isla Chiquita.
What's incredible about this trip is that it's not very expensive - just over $1,300 per person for the 8-days we'll be there (not including flights).
We're very happy to get away for a little while. It's been freezing in Ohio, so we look forward to basking in the hot central American sun.
