Incredible India!# Temples with Erotic statues in Khajuraho

Today I am going to write this post concerning one of the most visited locations in India. Khajuraho a small town situated in the state of Madhya Pradesh approximately 630km from New Delhi. Many tourists are coming here because its important archeological sites world heritage of Unesco (Eastern, Western and Southern ones).

This group of temples is brillant example of Nagara (Indo-Aryan) architecture.

They were built around the end 10th after Christ by the dynasty of Chandela. All of them in a light-yellow sandstone except in one partially in granite.

Particular is their structure on a base platform which surmont these temples from the entrance which is in the eastern side to the shrine inside the highest tower.

On the way you have the Mandapa (means circle) and Maha Mandapa (great circle).

The walls around the wall include circuambulations and transepts.

Between the circuambulatons the walls have representative statues of erotic positions.

Authentic icons situated in each corner an enigmatic mix of religion, sensuality and eroticism. A meeting between the act of sex and spirituality. Some of these statues show explicit positions which somebody could even consider indecent.

It is told that they were eighty-five temples but nowadays only fourteen temples survived in these archeaological site. Many stories and legends are concerning these buildings.

An interpretation of the sculptures in these temples indicate that the worshippers had to test their "sexual self-control" in order to go inside the temple. But it is no evidence.

Anyway the main reason of these sculptures in these temple is still an incognito.
